When I read about him winning an award at Cannes, I thought it was an extremely posthumous award to the late great actor. If this guy makes it big, every time I hear his name I'll think of the true Steve McQueen.

You didn't get what I was trying to say and that's okay. I was more or less joking. I don't really think that he should change his name. It was more of an honor to the late American actor than a slight to the British director.

Why should he change his name? It's HIS name as much as 'the real' Steve McQueen's. I think it's pretty easy to distinguish between a British film director and artist, and an old-school Hollywood legend whose been dead for nearly 30 years.

I was more or less joking. I don't really care if he changes his name or not, but I'm pretty sure he gets laughs when his name is brought up.

I thought he was his kid. Anyway I hate to say this but the actor we all know and love name is really Terrence.

I'm not understanding what you mean by the "real" Steve McQueen. It's his birth name. Now, for you it would be a pity if the other Steve McQueen was born with a different name. Your comment was down right STUPID.

I love this. First of all, I didn't say "real" Steve McQueen. I said "true" Steve McQueen. There is a big difference as it was said jokingly in the first place. Now, I'm not sure if you know this or not being that English doesn't seem like your first language, but when you put quotes around a word in this context, you need to quote the other person's word EXACTLY, especially when you're going to call the other person's comment "STUPID" (see how I did that and quoted you properly? it's really not that hard!) Little things like that make me laugh because if you're going to sit there and call my comment "STUPID" (once again, it's pretty easy), then you better not mess it up for fear of looking like a hypocrite, which you now do.

Now, to clarify my original post (which I made over 3 years ago, might I add):

- It was done in good taste. Not to offend Steve McQueen, the British director, but to give honor to the late American actor. It was written when this page didn't even have any pictures on it, it was empty and desolate, and he had only one film credit for Hunger. I saw Hunger and I thought it was a great film and McQueen is a great director.

- Get your panties out of bunches and smile once in a while, that's also pretty easy.

Steve Stevens is Billy Idol's excellent guitarist. And I agree this guy should change his name. I mean what the hell, if my name was John Lennon, I wouldn't be the "real" John Lennon just because it was my birth name. I just plain wouldn't, so I'd pick a new name. I can't see how anybody would want to be the weird, "fake" Steve McQueen or John Lennon.

No, he shouldn't. If that is his birth name then he should keep it. Its not as if he was named Adolph Hitler. Besides I doubt anyone will mistake him for his dearly departed namesake.

His birth name is Steve Rodney McQueen. He should use that on his films. Or Steve R. McQueen.

He's a free man living in a mostly free world. If he doesn't want to use the middle initial then he has a right not to.

And how does having the same name as someone famous help you in Hollywood? (unless it's only the last name and you are related) If I change my name to Robert De Niro, and try to become and actor, I doubt H'wood execs are going to be interested in me any more.

I didn't mean it would help him, but if he becomes famous, he's never gonna be Steve McQueen, he's gonna be "that other Steve McQueen, the director". If he was working in a different industry, then it would be no problem, but if I were him, I'd change my name. Steve McQueen's name should be considered retired, just like certain uniform numbers in baseball.

This guy is never going to do Hollywood movies. He isn't the type to go for the kind of fame you're talking about.
