Wont they? That strikes me as an odd thing to say for a show that has spent three seasons thoughtfully, meticulously, honouring one protagonists coming out journey so the wider audience can both know, and empathise, with her. While the other protagonist has been depicted as being anything but sexually repressed, making the idea of being open to sexual fluidity for one special person more than conceivable. Meanwhile, the relationship evolution between those two protagonists has been the core ACTIVE relationship/love story of the show (by that I mean Celia and Alans love story/relationship destination fairytale love, was already established in the first episode, making them the benchmark of true love in the universe of Last tango in Halifax: ie: passive fairytale, while Caroline and Gillian seem suspiciously like the active fairytale). Well, thats how it reads to me anyhow.

Yes! Gillian and Caroline most certainly had a moment, and it wasn't the first either! They are both big girls and they both know what they are doing even when it's wreckless. They call each other when you wouldn't think they would. They forgive one another pretty easily, they like each other and have been getting closer. I have been waiting for a kiss for two seasons. Gillian could do worse, look at the men she picks.

I agree Robbie isn't too bad! But you know how Gillian has a feww drinks and lets her knickers down a little too easy. But I have been seeing Gillian and Caroline for a while and kind of wanting that for them, I think they would be good together even though it would turn the whole world upside down, well Gillian's world anyway..

I honestly can't see how people could want Caroline and Gillian to be lovers. That really is just ridiculously over the top.

I actually find Gillian to be a rather disloyal friend to Caroline. The things she says about her behind her back and particularly to John are not the things a real friend would say. She's also a rather selfish person, bringing up her engagement to Robbie after Kate's funeral and then getting annoyed because Caroline still thinks it's a bad idea.

The thing you notice about Gillian is that she has no female friends other than Caroline. The way she sleeps around with any man that looks at her twice is most likely the reason why she can't keep any female friends. She already slept with John and was lucky that Caroline didn't keep a grudge over that because she certainly could have.

Anyway, Caroline deserves someone a hell of a lot better than Gillian.

Ah you must be one of those Caroline fans who put her on a pedestal. Gillian is a beautiful, passionate character. I think they would make a great couple, and also think series 4 will try to get them together. They're end game!

Caroline is far from perfect, that's the whole point of the show. Showing these beautiful, flawed, women. No need to drag one down just because you think the other is "better".

Gillian isn't gay. Why make her gay to pair her up with Caroline? It's just too contrived.

Could you see Caroline moving to the farm to live? Or Gillian moving to Caroline's? I think they're hilarious as a couple of friends hanging out. Their scene at the hotel when they knew they'd been mistaken as a couple getting married is one of funniest moments of the series.

Let's be honest, Gillian makes fun of Caroline at times being a dykey bitch and such. I honestly can't see her deciding that she too is a lesbian. We already know Caroline came out as a teenager, so it has never been out of the blue for her. It would however be completely out of the blue for Gillian.

I like the idea that these 2 women, who have been an only child growing up, can find a sisterly bond with one another due to their parents marrying. They come from very different backgrounds, but have managed to become friends and trust one another.

Yes I agree with you. I think their bond is purely the sisterly type. Just because a woman sleeps around doesn't mean she would become sexually fluid and suddenly sleep with another woman. I personally would find the pairing of Gillian and Caroline rather odd.

I have been in love with both characters from the first episode! My own Lovers have been flawed characters too, I don't know why I make those choices but some people just do. Caroline has relationship issues and her husband is an ass, her girl friend is a doll but we know how that ended. Gillian makes poor choices and has never chose anyone who's good for her. Like another said, I've been waiting for at least a kiss fer two seasons, never mind falling into the sack some night when they're half in the bag. I think they would be good for each other frankly. Lovely ladies, the both of them.

I have been in love with both characters since the 1st season ! I have been waiting for these two to fall in bed together for a few seasons. Honestly I think they'd be good for each other. Gillian chooses men that have no respect for her and let's her pants down when Shea's drunk. Caroline didn't do any better, her husband and father of her children is an absolute ass. I'm looking forward to more episodes!
