Blues, Jazz & Soul : Post your old school song for today, Pt. 2

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt. 2

@Vodkie wow 7 copies of "Black Reign" album, that is a classic album

I have Toni Braxton first album I never paid any attention to the time limit on the song. The song could have went on for 10 minutes I don't care.

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt. 2

10 minutes wouldn't be enough for me. I love that song! It's funny looking back at the video and seeing Toni's sisters. Tamar reminded me of Brandy with the braids.

I remember them. They had a song called Full of Smoke. That was a great cover of the Rose Royce track. Thanks for posting, Peggy.

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt. 2

Yes, "Full Of Smoke" was excellent and retro-sounding. And speaking of covers.

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt. 2

(rmcrae_deluxe, you're preaching to the choir. I used to be really hard on Mary for taking on some old school classics but realized it wasn't her fault. Puffy and other producers were trying to fuse 90's R&B with the past and it worked because Mary has a fan base with both generations.)

oK, I miscalculated. It was like 6.

My original CD I bought in 94 got scratched. Replaced it. That one got stolen

Replaced it again (3). This one got ruined in a move to another home in 2004.

So I ended up ordering it off amazon UK since I couldn't find it anywhere in the US and was buying a british DVD anyways (copy 4)

In 2005, I got a "promotional use only" Vinyl for 50 cents (copy 5)

and In 2010, An ebayer sold the japan release and because i couldn't find the lyrics ro The track "ROUGH." with Heavy D, Krs one and Treach from Naughty by nature, I bought my 6th copy from ebay

Farts are like children. I'm proud of mine and disgusted by yours.

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt. 2

rmcrae_deluxe, hahaha. I go through a few Youtubes before selecting the one I want to post. Yes, Dennis was mugging for the camera like no other. Cheesy!

(Sounds like Janet's " When I Think Of You" but then again it was produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis)

Peggy, one cover Mary did that I prefer over the original is I'm Goin' Down by Rose Royce. No disrespect to Gwen "Rose" Dickey, but I found her delivery too whiny. MJB was hurtin', but she wasn't about to cry for nobody! )

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt.2

I love MJB's Rose Royce cover, too. In fact, I think it's Mary's best remake.

Mary J. Blige - Beautiful Ones

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt.2

I love that song too one of my favorite from that Mary J album

Speaking of that album I think my CD Player had a mind of its own when I put it on shuffle it would always play this song in the first 5 songs (I have a 50 +1 disc player)

Mary J. Blige- "time"

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt.2

Of all of Mary's albums I think that one is the most underrated. It was different from her earlier hip hop-driven records, but it was still soulful Mary.

"Speaking of that album I think my CD Player had a mind of its own when I put it on shuffle it would always play this song in the first 5 songs (I have a 50 +1 disc player)"

I guess it knew a good song when it heard it. I like that one too.

This song should've been included on the Mary album, but since it sounded more like the My Life Era it was left off:

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt.2

I know right I guess so, like I said it had hundreds of other songs to shuffle through and "time" just kept coming up.

Wow I never head that song before thanks for posting that. I don't know "Sincerity" may have sounded out of place with the Mary album I can see it being on the Share My World album

For those wondering, FunkyTown Grooves is some company based in the uk. They re-issue remastered Deluxe CDs of oldies, mainly by Record labels primarily owned by Sony or Universal such as Epic, RCA, Motown, ETC. They often add Dubs, mixes, ETC, that were on the vinyl singles.

they've re-issued titles by Patti Labelle, Diana Ross, Mtume, Earth Wind & Fire, Reebie & latoya jackson, Evelyn "Champagne" king, Galdys Knight, to name a few

Re: Post your old school song for today, Pt.2

I think I know what you talking about if they are anything like those albums me and my dad would get overseas in Japan and Spain, are they various artists and some songs include remixes that you won't see on any albums? What part of th UK do you live in I miss getting music overseas and I was wanted to see if you see any various artists mixed albums.
