Archie Panjabi : Yasmin

Yasmin

I've just finished watching 'Yasmin' and i felt the need to tell someone how wonderful her performance was and as i watched it alone i thought i'd come on here.

Its a remarkable film it is so correct and right and just but so believable - you get a sense of the enormous amount of issues there are tied up with being muslim and with being a muslim woman. You begin to understand through watching it that there are no simple answers to ending the problems facing the muslim community in the UK but what it makes clear is what causes the problems and what heightens them are fear of difference, fear of change, and most of all just lack of a willingness to understand how other people see the world and why therefore they do what they do.

I'm rambling i'm sorry its just very very good. And what's central to it being so good is Panjabi's performance which is *beep* spot on! She gets the balance just right between Yasmins utter confusion and a will to be independent. Her finding her way to her idea of Islam is so subtly done. Lovely. Now i'm gushing too!

But basically it's an eye-opening film and it should be seen by everyone in the country, its very important and very real - and we dont see enough of that.

Re: Yasmin

thank you i will watch it

Re: Yasmin

I watched it today. She's absolutely fantastic.

Re: Yasmin

I watched it when it first came out, and thought it was absolutely brilliant. It really brought some important issues to light and I agree that Archie was the movie's shining light (although I could imagine that some Pakistani Muslim's might have some issues with a British-Indian Hindu playing the title character). I had only seen her in bend it like beckham before this movie. She was hilarious in that, but absolutely fabulous in this movie, a real talent!
