True Crime : Woman found not guilty of rape after saying she's too lazy and can't multitask

Woman cleared of forcing man into sex after saying she's too 'lazy' to get on top

A woman accused of pinning her online date down and forcing him to have sex has been cleared by a jury after telling them she is too ‘lazy’ to stay on top.

Imogen Brooke, 31, was said to have yanked her alleged victim onto his back and straddled him when they got into bed at her flat in Southampton.

The port city’s crown court heard she weighed 24 stone at the time and was ‘quite a lot bigger and stronger than him and he couldn’t move her’.

She was also accused of giving the man a love bite that ‘looked like he had been strangled’, telling him during the alleged attack: ‘You may be saying no but your dick is saying yes.’

But Brooke was found not guilty of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent after insisting the pair had just kissed before her date fell asleep.

She told the jury she never would have got into the position the complainant described because she was too self-conscious.

Brooke said: ‘I’m not comfortable with my body, because I’m bigger than most people.

I’m a big girl and I’m not confident of my weight, or any part of my body.’

She told the court that on the night in question, the two had returned to her flat.

The college student recalled: ‘I let Lexi my dog out, put some onion rings on and put the TV on because that’s what I usually do – and because I like food, especially when I’ve drunk.

‘We sat on the bed, and we were kissing and that’s when the love-bite happened.’

She told the court that after they kissed, she went to check on the food, during which time her alleged victim fell asleep.

Imogen Brooke was cleared following a four-day trial.

Brooke continued: ‘After kissing, I went and sorted the onion rings out – I would’ve checked if they were cooked or needed a bit longer and put mayonnaise on the plate.

‘I ate them all to myself because he was asleep.’

Defending, Audrey Archer asked whether she had tugged at the man’s arm to get him to lie on his back in the lead up to the alleged assault.

She replied: ‘No, I’m not Superwoman.’

Asked whether she had sat astride the complainant for 15 minutes like he alleged, she said: ‘No, 15 minutes on top, I wouldn’t – I’m very lazy. I had no sex on top for any duration.’

Of the love bite, she told the court she couldn’t have done that ‘because I can’t multitask’.

In her closing speech to the jury, Ms Archer said: ‘If a man is going to accuse a woman of forcing him to have sex, is he going to suggest whereby he was behind her?

‘Is he going to suggest one where he is on top of her? That isn’t going to add up or make sense with an allegation of forced sex.

‘The only position a man could suggest a woman was in if he was going to suggest he has been forced to have sex with her is one whereby she would have had to be on top of him.’

Judge Brian Forster KC said to the jury: ‘I promised you an interesting trial – I hope it has been just that.’

Well I think they should have thrown this woman in jail simply for putting mayonnaise on onion rings.

I guess she dips them into the mayo? Maybe it was flavored mayo, like chipotle mayo or something. That can be ok for dipping onion-related appetizers. But regular mayo, eeew!

I knew she wouldn't be found guilty. Obviously I don't know if she's guilty or not, but like you said, it's hard for many to accept that this is even possible.

Rape requires the rapist to insert something in the victim.

Any male is almost always physically larger and stronger than any female. Even a high school boy can't be forced to insert his penis in a woman.

This is why I say it's important to make a distinction between sexual assault and rape. The only way a woman can rape a man is if she renders him unconscious and wears a strap-on. But we both know that has probably never happened and if it has, it's a rare occurrence.

There've been times that I've been in bed with girls who wanted to have sex but I was tired and didn't feel like it. So I'd pretend to fall asleep and hope that they do their thing while they think I'm asleep, so I'd have the privilege of just lying there while someone else does all the work. Ha.

At the end of the article, there's a quote from the judge saying, "I promised you an interesting trial – I hope it has been just that." That makes it sound like even the judge wasn't taking it seriously and treated it as entertainment.

He had a "love bite," but technically that's not proof. Although if the sexes were reversed, I wonder if more people would consider it proof of a crime.

That's exactly my point. I cannot abide this "believe all women" line of bullshit being fed to the masses. What? Like women cannot lie or do something maliciously? C'mon.

I despise this assertion that a woman cannot rape a man because they lack the understanding of what's behind rape: it's not an act of sex, it's an act of violence, and crossed boundaries, and also quite often it involves power dynamics. It's not just clear cut like some people are trying to make this out to be. Men, especially, boasting and bragging how they'd love it if their teacher "raped" them, without realizing the fact that passing those thoughts/ideologies down to your son is teaching them to have no respect for boundaries either.

It's insulting and it's erroneous.

Yes. I think a lot of guys think this way because they're not thinking with the brain above their neck. Reading this forum, a lot of time I think the guys on here are still going through puberty.
