Re: Who are your Favorite U.S. Presidents ?

Jefferson for enshrining the Bil of Rights into the Constitution.

Lyndon Johnson for pushing civil rights legislation through Congress.

Franklyn Roosevelt for pulling the U.S. out of the Great Depression and the New Deal economy.

Truman for nuking the Japanese.

JFK was one of the worst President IMHO. I'm still trying to figure how the lie of his greatness has been perpetuated.

I believe he rose to "greatness" with his assassination and the fact that he was fairly young and that he left a young family behind.
We always wonder what might have been, had someone lived after such a tragedy.
That's my take on it. He made his share of mistakes and he certainly made plenty of enemies.

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Re: Who are your Favorite U.S. Presidents ?

JFK made some profoundly cowardly and dangerous decisions during his Presidency. First, he promised support to Cuban refugees to overthrow Castro, but then he reneged at the Bay of Pigs only to destroy the movement to restore freedom to Cuba.

This act of cowardice emboldened the Soviet Union to move nuclear weapons to Cuba, bringing the world to the brink of a nuclear holocaust.

Plus, in his personal life, he cheated on his wife and was addicted to speed aka amphetamines. Sorry, JFK was a horrible President and a disgusting man.

I agree. All of the above…
He was definitely not the saint people make him out to be.
The ones who got him elected were thrown under the bus after he was in office.
He used people and threw them away when he got what he wanted.

Re: Who are your Favorite U.S. Presidents ?

The thing that bothers me is that JFK has this great reputation, even though everything he did was a failure. It all goes to the fact he was the handsome son of a wealthy prominent family. He was clearly one of the worst Presidents in U.S. history.

Plus he did nothing to further the Civil Rights movement in the South. Ironically, it was the Southern racist Lyndon Johnson who ended up securing the rights of African-Americans. JFK virtually ignored the most important human rights movement in U.S history.

In my lifetime, Barack Obama. Joe Biden is off to a strong start and could match or surpass him. The best of all time is FDR.
