America's Got Talent : Which sob story is the winner?

Which sob story is the winner?

We have Make A Wish Terminal Cancer Girl vs Widower Who Lost His Wife In The Kobe Krash Now Stuck With Three Kids.

We know which one prob. needs the annual 20K more since the other won't get much of a chance to use it.

My money is on Kobe Krash Dad since Kobe The Rapist Bryant is the more famous and beloved one and this reopens old wounds that were up until now forgotten about.

It no longer matters which one is better than the other.
What matters now is which one will get the most sympathy.

His crocodile tears right at the end was a director's wet dream for that money shot and a nice touch for him.

What a sad ass way to beg for ratings lol.

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

Good point and I agree.

I have zero doubt this is why these two were among the hand picked to get on stage and were in the front of the lines for all the other cold audition walk ons.

They claim that they all get an audition in front of producers before going on stage.
I wouldn't be surprised if these two, and other sob stories, don't even bother with that.
"We saw your video. We know you are good. Go for it!"

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

If I were a judge on one of these competition shows I would disqualify/vote against everyone who shared their sob story with me.

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

I agree.
There are so many that I would vote against even though it goes against what the audience wants and those bad acts get through.

Yeah, I would also not give a shit and vote against a lot of the acts that they do.

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

I haven't watched the most recent audition episodes yet. How many audition episodes are there? I assume AGT will get bumped by Olympics coverage in a few weeks.

Most of the time, the person's background story is irrelevant to their talent. I don't really feel the need to "get to know" the person; I just want to watch them perform whatever they think is their talent.

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

Sometimes when I watch I just FF through all that sappy backstory stuff…
"This is where I grew up where we heard gunshots every night. This is a picture of my mom who I lost to cancer when I was not more than 5. And here is a picture of my older brother who was killed by a stray bullet when he was packing to leave for college. The song I am doing is for *Wipes away tear* him tonight."

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

Sometimes they take something mild, or something that has happened to a lot of people, and they try to turn it into a big dramatic thing. I'm sure the producers make them do that.

Another annoying thing is the camerawork on the show. The director seems to think the audience has ADHD. They'll show you 5 seconds of the act, then a shot of the host making some pointless comment, then a shot of a judge, then another shot of the act, then a shot of the audience, etc. I don't care about anyone's reactions, I just want to watch the performance. Sometimes they show a judge when they don't even have any type of reaction at all. I don't need to see Heidi with her hand binoculars, or dancing in her seat or whatever. And they have constant background music throughout the show, which is often distracting.

I am so private that I really doubt I could share with the world a lot of stuff we get from the performers.

One year one of them lied and they didn't catch on until later.
LOL
Taking advantage of the sob stories!

Funny you bring that up those other points because they did that on the recent one.

They cut away from the act to show a judge and I was wondering what I missed!

And did you catch the guy with the two faces lip synching?
When his act was over they kept playing the music which made me think they didn't stop it when he was talking to the judges.

Re: Which sob story is the winner?

No, I haven't seen that one. I think I only watched two audition episodes so far this season. I saw that there were at least 7 audition episodes. I hope the 7th is the last one and they're moving on to the next step in the competition.

The directors are morons if they think we prefer to watch reactions to an act instead of the act itself.

I'm also sick of the acts that involve the judges. Too many magic acts do that.
