Yes. Giving the question a little more thought, I noticed the first cracks with "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" There were still good episodes after that but they were losing steam. They started leaning on wacky Homer and guest appearances ("Homerpalooza"), altering character back stories ("Mother Simpson"), or just got gimmicky ("22 Short Films About Springfield"). Season 7 felt different and I worried that they were running out of ideas but most of the episodes I think are good. "The Principal and the Pauper" in season 9, where Principal Skinner was revealed to be a fraud, was probably the point of no return. After you destroy a character like that nothing really matters, you can do whatever. Most episodes after that are bad and forgettable but it wasn't until season 11's "Saddlesore Galactica" that I came to truly hate the show.

I would have said season 8, but after my Disney+ subscription I must admit that there are some good episodes throughout the seasons! 😬

I was Googling the other night and apparently a few of the more modern ones are very good. I’m tempted to binge the whole damn thing.

I would not say they go sad per say,but the material gets old,a person gets board of it and it carries on for way to long.

After co-creator Sam Simon left. He was credited by many of the original writers with creating the spirit of the show, even more than Matt Groening. Some say he is the real brains behind the Simpsons. After he left in 1993, the show started to stray from its original vision as a grounded comedy and became more cartoonish. Within a few years the writing staff he assembled was mostly gone and the show wasn't the Simpsons anymore.

Really not sure, I see too many new episodes that I haven’t seen that focus too much on Marge and Lisa both being totally fucking annoying cunts. I’m sure it has everything to do with representation of women by pussy media studios.
