The Fly II : What does David Cronenberg think of this?

What does David Cronenberg think of this?

Has David Cronenberg ever commented on what he thinks of this movie, or if he ever even saw it? Just curious.

Jeez, if you're going to accost someone while they're trying to shop, at least have the decency to film in landscape and not portrait mode. That really "bugs" me.

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.

Re: What does David Cronenberg think of this?

Cronenberg didn't think it was very good according to the video clip, but so what. It wasn't as edgy as The Fly, but I thought it had more entertainment value and upped the ante in the blood and gore stakes. It was also just as poignant in some scenes. Cronenberg's films can also be intellectually self-indulgent for his own sake too.

Re: What does David Cronenberg think of this?

LOL. Yeah, if I were Cronenberg I'd probably be a little snotty myself. The way they wrote Veronica Quaife off is not only cruel, but quite inappropriate. Frankly, I don't think her story would have gone that far. I think she'd have had the abortion and that would be that. End of story. BUT you're right in that Fly II does have some values of it's own going for it. The exploitation factor is one. The commentary on seedy big corporate conglomerates speaks well for itself as well. I think the latter is why Stoltz decided the do the project.

Re: What does David Cronenberg think of this?

It is quite an ambitious sequel, and while not as intimate thematically, it was Martin's need for a father figure and someone to look up, that gave the film it's heart. Yes, Veronica would have been better of with an abortion, rather than being exploited, yet Seth attempted to put a stop to this in the original too and she ended up dead regardless. It was interesting that Chris Walas directed, and I liked that the cinematographer and composer were from the same guys who did the first 2 Hellraiser films.

Re: What does David Cronenberg think of this?

Indeed. Christopher Young and Robin Vidgeon did great work on the first two Hellraiser pictures and were just as great in this film too. Both brought an aesthetic to all three that went hand in hand with each other, whether they were purposefully put together on Fly II or not.

The production values of Fly II are amazing given the crew that was behind it.
