Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull : What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

1) Relatively weak story.
2) WAY too much CGI.
3) Shia LeBouef.

How about you guys?

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

1. Very weak story
2. Made into an almost G rated flick for overseas kiddies
3. Shia LeBouef, Karen Allen
4. The Sci-Fi angle was completely unnecessary and ruined the whole film

Shall we play a game?

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

4) Cate Blanchett
5) Cutesy moments:
i. kids driving along in the opening scene
ii. fencing on jeeps
iii. swinging through the trees
6) spacecraft taking off

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

I think the story was great. My issues were:
1. Digital rather than film
2. CGI didn't work for numerous scenes

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

The writing is the biggest issue. The comedy falls flat in a lot of places. The more serious parts work pretty well by comparison. Mutt is basically a useless character also.

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

None of the stories were particularly strong. Bad guy wants a thing, Indiana Jones gets involved, makes much reference to his long and complicated background of finding things, and eventually he leads the bad guy to the thing, and the bad guy dies as a result. The only one which didn't quite fit the mold was ToD, but that one really just substituted kids.

I'd say the film and story were working just fine until just after Marion is re-introduced. Then comes the damnable sword fight from the backs of boat-jeeps through the rough-cut jungle (and that damnable attempt to correct his fencing form to remind us of how involved a mother she was in his prep schooling), Mutt going Tarzan and earning the trust and obedience of the local monkey population within minutes, the idiotic giant man-eating ants, and especially Marion driving off the cliff onto a tree like a damnable cartoon.

That sequence of events progressively squanders all the whimsical capital the franchise had earned up until that point, even worse than Indy surviving a nuclear blast and cannon launch from inside a refrigerator. Take them out, and an excessive amount of the CGI goes as well, and the film avoids falling into the abyss of cutesy self-congratulation.

"I like to watch." Chauncey Gardiner, 'Being There'

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

1) Terrible story, with characters that made no difference (see Mac)
2) Terrible editing, some things happened that made no sense (Cate Blanchette's ability in the first act, Karen Allen getting struck in the big scene, and nothing resulted)
3) Awful CGI and wasted 3rd act. No sense of adventure or even that Indy was in any danger.

Re: What are your 3 biggest problems with KOTCS

1. The plot. All the three first had supernatural elements, but this one has a sci-fi element instead, and that's jarring. Not only that, but it chooses the crystal skulls as the mcguffin, which exist in real life but are known hoaxes.
2. CGI. We know CGI isn't real, so it can never impress us the way actual stunts can.
3. No one wants to see their heroes grow old.
