Cast Away : Weight loss

Weight loss

I haven't seen "Castaway" in a few years but Tom lost some weight during his stay on the island, didn't he? He lived on coconuts and fish. But at first, he didn't know how to cook the crab cause he hasn't figured out how to start a fire yet. I liked how the insides of a crab is all slimey when raw. He also grew a short beard over the couple years he was on the island. I though he would have more than a short beard two years later.

Re: Weight loss

Oh, just saw film again on Netflicks. It was 4 years, not two, and his beard was long. I gotta stop posting comments on films I haven't seen in years cause I'm writing things not accurate.

Re: Weight loss

I'd say a diet of nothing but coconut juice and fish and crab, cooked or uncooked would be a sure fire way to lose weight. In fact, I'm surprised no one ever tried to market a "Chuck Noland Diet"

Re: Weight loss

I wonder how he lost that much weight.

Haha probably because most people wouldn't last that long. Most would probably have to have no choice to live on a diet of just fish and coconuts. And although there would be a great amount of weight loss and its seems possible to live off that diet for a while it still lacks a lot of vitamins.

Re: Weight loss

Fish actually provides most of the essential nutrients a human body needs. It would be boring of course, but at least Chuck had a choice between crab meat and fish meat.

Re: Weight loss

I know fresh fish is healthy I was thinking more of lack of veggies, carbs and water. What if it didn't rain for over a week? Coconuts and coconut juice is healthy but I'd imagine in Chuck's situation, he would have to limit how much he drank.
