"Wait Until Dark" Has Slick Scares

Despite a year of "modern" cinema like "The Graduate" & "Bonnie and Clyde," 1967's "Wait Until Dark" was also a hit with audiences. From the playwright of "Dial M For Murder," this film adapt stars Audrey Hepburn as a blind woman whose travelling husband unwittingly takes a heroin-filled doll from another passenger. 100% agree with you about this film, Rick. And I'm so glad to see you here. The IMDBv2 board has disappeared, as you probably know, so I hope you will keep posting here. I always enjoy your insights.

Re: "Wait Until Dark" Has Slick Scares

The movie has one of the great jump scares when Roat comes out of the bedroom.

I saw this in a college film forum, and if there is anyone with an "Okay, buddy, scare me" attitude, it is a group of college students.

The entire audience jumped out of their seats when Roat appeared and were screaming as he crawled across the floor to Hepburn.

Arkin is a curious actor with an unaccentuated vocal delivery, much like Kevin Costner. It doesn't always work to their benefit, but their star charisma dominates every scene in which they appear.

Arkin has had a long career and is still working. Also check out The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (a mute role), Escape from Sobibor (Nazi death camp inmate) and The Seven-Per-Cent Solution (Dr. Sigmund Freud meets Sherlock Holmes).

And This, Too, Shall Pass Away

The part that made me jump was when Roat leaped at Suzie after we thought she had killed him.
