Art : Van Gogh

Van Gogh

Now has a traveling interactive exhibit/show. I saw it last night, and it was amazing.

He was penniless when he committed suicide. He produced 900 painting, but only sold one. Now his works are worth millions, he has the aforementioned show, and a museum in Amsterdam which I toured when I was there.

Amazing artist, amazing, but sad story.

PS Did you know he was partially color blind?

Re: Van Gogh

Very unfair that he didn't benefit from the sale of his art but, let's be honest, he was not exactly skilled, was he?

I'm sure his art has a special place in many people's hearts today, but in the far more honest time that he was alive, people knew they were just looking at very simple drawings. Why would they spend their hard earned money on them?

Check my block list because you're probably on it.

Re: Van Gogh

Not skilled?? You gotta be shittin' me! Or are you just trolling me?

His talent was amazing, and his works are transcendental. He's one of the greatest artists of all time. And the far more honest time? WTF is that supposed to mean?? It's just that people of his time were too fucking dumb to appreciate him.

And he didn't just do drawings, he produced 900 painting! And he only lived for 37 years! Any one of his works is work more than you make in several years! They're worth millions, and there is a museum in Amsterdam dedicated to him.

I graduated from college with a BFA in Fine Arts, and I know art, and believe me, his art is transcendental!

Re: Van Gogh

I'm not trolling.

Surely, with your background, you should know art is subjective. Van Gogh's work does nothing for me.

Other painters I don't rate are Munch and Picasso. My favorites are Caravaggio and Rembrandt.

Re: Van Gogh

You obviously have no taste nor appreciation for true art. Art is subjective, but some great art transcends mere subjectivity. Your soul is dead, and I feel sorry for you.

Believe me, I take no pleasure in pointing this out.

Re: Van Gogh

I recently visited a town called Arles in France where Van Gogh spent some time and painted this picture of a cafe there

Re: Van Gogh

One of the coolest things was after you saw the immersive, 360 degree video, in the next room they had black and white prints of six of his paintings, and crayons for us to color in, as if we were Van Gogh.

The above was one of them. I did not remember this painting, but I instinctively colored the patio in yellow and orange to represent represent light. Then you could put each work in a device which projected it onto a screen to show what it would look like in a frame. So cool!

I graduated from college with a BFA in Fine Arts many moons ago, and frantically coloring in different works from this transcendent master was cathartic for me. He was such an amazing talent! I plan to do some more art now.

Then in the next room they had a VR experience which was very very cool.

If you get a chance to see this show, you should go!

Re: Van Gogh

Wow. I had never seen that song with the lyrics. Such a hauntingly beautiful song about such a talented and beautiful, but troubled person. I wonder what he would think of the traveling exhibition, and his museum in Amsterdam.

Thank you, NZer. That was very kind of you.

BTW, have you seen the film Loving Vincent? It's the world's first fully painted feature film. It was drawn and painted by hundreds of artists, and took eight years to complete. I saw it, and I was mesmerized. Here is the Trailer:

If you get the chance, you really should see it.

Re: Van Gogh

A song that I used to like but then when I found out it was done by a wife beater, I can no longer listen to it.

Don McLean is scum of the earth.

Re: Van Gogh

So in your mind baby killers are okay, but wife beaters are unacceptable?

Re: Van Gogh

Yeah, shit for brains, because when a woman is getting beaten that is beyond her control.
When she has a fetus, that is within her control and should be her right whatever she chooses to do with it.

Figures wife beaters are OK with you since you obviously hate women and refuse to recognize they have any rights at all.

Re: Van Gogh

I don't hate women, shit for brains. You're just saying that in a desperate attempt to justify your fucked up attempt at logic.

Of course wife beaters are NOT okay, dumb ass, but neither is killing babies which you're in favor of. A woman does not have the right to do anything she wants with a baby, you evil cunt! That is a separate human being with rights.

Re: Van Gogh

If you do not support a woman's right to choose to get rid of the parasite growing inside her then you hate woman and you love a song by a wife beater.
Proof enough.

Hey, thank you for that recommendation!
Will check later how much can be enjoyed online. ♥

Yes, heard of his partial color blindness and still have some problems to believe it.
Was it red-green blindness?
Cause red-green blindness is more often with males than females.
One of my godmothers wrote the names of the wax-colours on the boxes when her son started his candle-business (pretty successful though red-green blind also). ☺

And definitely had enough sunflowers today. 🌻🌻🌻

Re: Van Gogh

You're welcome. As his color blindness, I got the impression from the exhibit that his perception of color was simply duller and more lifeless than ours. Thus, since he couldn't see bright colors, he used very bright colors in his paintings.

Ironically, it's like the great Ludwig Van Beethoven being mostly deaf in his later years.

BTW, have you seen the film Loving Vincent? My description, and the trailer, is in my response to NZer.

Re: Van Gogh

I will never take part in anything such as this interactive show that is trivializing and cheapening his works which commercializes his genius.

He is my favorite painter and I have been to and seen many of his paintings when on exhibit and I am reading his letters to his brother Theo.
That is how I prefer to live through him.
In genuine and real ways instead of bogus, stupid light shows and retarded gifs.

You wanna play with crayons and do connect the dots, go right ahead!

I guess you are learning how to count and color and that is a big step for such a big baby like you!

You are the one that is bragging about connect the dots and color in by number with crayons as if that is some huge accomplishment by you.
No need to share since we know it is, shit for brains.

This endless debate is pointless and a waste of time. Neither of us is going to convince the other of anything. So let's just agree to disagree. Okay?
