Friends : The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

“Friends” — Rachel Green left her fiancé at the altar, met her future love at the gang’s sanctuary where she ended up working as a waitress, and sucked at it.
“Cheers” — On their way to catch a flight to Barbados to get married, Diane Chambers, whose fiancé went AWOL, met her future love at the gang’s sanctuary where she ended up working as a waitress, and sucked at it.

The only difference is that on "Friends," the woman got cold feet, whereas on "Cheers," the man got cold feet. Since James Burrows had creative input on both series, the similarities were definitely not coincidental.

Edit: Ross and Rachel both had the highest number of lines (over 9,000 in total), which officiates them as the main characters – exactly what Sam and Diane were until Shelley Long's demise. After that, it was an ensemble cast. Another similarity between the two shows, despite that being just a coincidence instead of more proof that "Friends" is a ripoff. Original or not, you gotta admit the coincidence in Jennifer and David's surnames is epic – Aniston billed first and Schwimmer billed with "special credit" (last). Like a boss!

Both had human actors in them too!

Coincidence?

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

HaHaha that's hilarious. In that case, you won't like my edit to this post. Please read. IDC if it's nonsense from your POV.

Also Rachel got an unlikely new job as a waitress with no experience and so did Diane. And both jobs were serving drinks (Rachel serving coffee and Diane serving alcohol). Also Woody and Joey were both airheads.

How's that little dog?

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

He's ok. I just left hm at home to come to work.

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

Woody wasn’t in the pilot of Cheers.

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

Woody didn't come until the beginning of the fourth season, as Coach's replacement (since Nicholas Colasanto died). Please see the edit in my original post above.

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

Nice! Although, Woody and Joey are just cliche like with many sitcoms with dumb characters. I added another one about "Friends" and "Cheers" in my edited post above.

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

The wedding premise is similar to Cheers, but the execution was different. All of the action in the Cheers premiere is centered in the bar, and pretty much all of the series for that matter.

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

Still the same either way, though. Check out the edit to my original post.

Meuh, everything is inspired by something else anyways. So, not a big deal.

Being left at the altar is a staple of TV shows and movies.

As well as my life!

I am sure that 14th time's the charm!

Indeed. BTW, I edited my post.

Re: The pilot episode was basically recycled from the pilot episode of “Cheers.”

And both were on TV and the same network!

Friends" is a ripoff.

Well, Friends is a ripoff of Living Single, so I'm not even surprised.

Also, Cheers is superior to Friends, imo.
