Urban Legend : So good…but the sequels

So good…but the sequels

How can a great horror film like this be followed by awful sequels. I can barely remember the sequels actually...a good thing!! All I really remember is an evil twin brother in the second one...and a film that was like a made for cable tv film as the third one! Why can't the makers of the the first film come back for the sequels!
Horror fan from the UK:-)

Re: So good…but the sequels

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think 'Final Cut' is a fine film, although it isn't as satisfying as the first 'Urban Legend'. And while the third movie suffers from a downturn in quality and is the least impressive of the series, I still like it.

Re: So good…but the sequels

I actually like the 2nd one, FINAL CUT. It does good job combining Hitchcockian themes, tongue-in-cheek humor, and horror. What I like about these URBAN LEGEND films is that even though you know who the killer is after 1st viewing, they are still very watchable flicks.

Re: So good…but the sequels

First one was good.

Second: Ehh...was okay. Had its moments but still, left you dry and dissatisfied.

Third (Bloody Mary): BEYOND terrible!

Re: So good…but the sequels

Oh, yeah, I forgot about BLOODY MARY. No sh*t! That flick was total crap! What a ridiculous ending!

Re: So good…but the sequels

I kind of enjoyed 'Final Cut', but 'Bloody Mary' is pretty much out of place, imo.

UL Final Cut: A little bit TOO humorous for my taste and the characters were not nearly as well developed as the ones in the first movie. They were all irritating and snobish. The characters from the original UL are a little bit more diverse and likeable... including the villain!
But I think it's watchable anyway. It has a lot of nice references to some old horror films and the music score is pretty much better than the one in the first film (IMO)

UL Bloody Mary: Nothing to do with the previous films, so I don't see what's the deal with the title. I think this should have been disregarded as a sequel from the very beginning. Why not call it 'Bloody Mary' and refrain from adding it to the UL franchise? I don't understand what's the deal with this so-called sequel.
This was more like a low-budget supernatural slasher with a predictable ending and it didn't give me the slasher vibe that I got with the first two films.

Para amar hay que morir muchas veces.

Re: So good…but the sequels

I loved the first and the second film, but the 3rd was complete crap. I had pretty high expectations for the third one, considering how the 2nd ended(Spoilers):

Having Brenda and the killer from the second film team up would've been a fun concept for a final film, making it a connected trilogy. They seem to screw up "Part 3's" in horror films, though...UL 3 was cheap, Halloween 3 was silly, Jaws 3 and Amityville 3 were gimmicky 3D bombs, I Know What You Did 3 was ludicrous...even The Ring 3 and The Grudge 3 are both announced as straight-to-DVD, which doesn't bode well for their chances at success.

The only "3"'s I can honestly say I liked were Nightmare on Elm Street 3, and Friday the 13th 3...they, at least stayed consistent with their respective franchises(and in the case of Elm Street, improved upon a horrible previous sequel).

Deeeeeeep hurting!!!!!!!

Re: So good…but the sequels

SPOILER!

The beginning of Urban Legend has to be one of the best start's to a horror movie! The creepy dark road..the lone woman..the creepy gas station..the strange attendant..then the twist!:-)

Re: So good…but the sequels

Urban Legend is a fairly awful movie in itself. However, I'm incredibly fascinated by urban legend stories, and Rebecca Gayheart's performance was great. Alicia Witt was infuriating. And, hell, if I had to listen to Natasha Gregson Wagner sing like that, I would've cut her head off too!

I barely remember the sequel. I remembered that Matthew Davis played twins or something, but it wasn't clearly expressed or shown at all, which made me let down. Brenda showing up as the nurse was the best part.

and, oh, Bloody Mary is AWFUL. The acting is disturbing in the fact that they even hired these actors. Kate Mara is talented. And... That's it. Kate Mara's also the only one who looked like she knew what she was doing.

They're all kinda bad in their own way.
But yet SO GOOD.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!

Re: So good…but the sequels

The 2nd is my least favorite, though I still like it. I really love Urban Legends Bloody Mary!! Great film. I have no idea why people hate it. And trust me if you think it is to low budget you need to see more horror films.

Re: So good…but the sequels

Bloody Mary is awful in the terms of it's actors. I actually think, for it's budget, it looks fairly decent, but some of the lead actresses are probably some of the worst I've ever seen.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!

Re: So good…but the sequels

I have seen alot worse actors then them...they were quite passable for this film. I have seen way worse in terms of acting.

Re: So good…but the sequels

Kate Mara was a great lead, and the guy who played her brother was good, but I'm mainly referring to her two best friends. The beginning of the movie makes me cringe because of how painfully bad they are.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!

Re: So good…but the sequels

Bloody Mary's cting is a LOT better than in a lot of low budget horror movis
Now, it's not good or anything, but I've seen far worse. I disagree on Kate Mara though, didn't like her much at all. I thought Heather's actress and Buck's actor did pretty decent jobs though:)

The same urban legend is also depicted at the beginning of another movie, Nightmares (1983).

Re: So good…but the sequels

This may have been three years ago, but I have to say something.

The funniest thing about trolls like you is, it's highly unlikely that you'd say stuff like this to people in real life. People like to adopt faux attitudes online, from the safety of their keyboards. Cringe central. Maybe try getting some sunlight?

Re: So good…but the sequels

I think the sceond one was terrible, but I enjoyed "Urban Legend: Bloody Mary."

Clark's destiny = Superman, Lex Luthor & Lois Lane.

Re: So good…but the sequels

Final Cut: I thought it was a decent flick. Not that bad and not that great.

Bloody Mary: I've never seen it.

Welcome to my Nightmare- Freddy Krueger

Re: So good…but the sequels

Yeah, this is by no means a 'great horror film'...
I actually prefer Final Cut.
