Shutter Island : Shutter Island

Shutter Island

Who saw "the end" coming? Did you figure it out well in-advance? For the record, I did not see it coming.

Re: Shutter Island

I just had an uneasy feeling right through the movie that something was askew, but I didn't pick what it was. I should watch it again, because it was a really excellent psychological thriller and needs to be seen several times to really take in everything.

Re: Shutter Island

It was the glances between the other characters that made me suspicious, but absolutely I never picked up the plot at all, so the reveal was great.

I would say that most movies I watch several times, often dozens of times. Part of the reason is I'll also run them in the background while I'm doing something else, (after I watch it with full attention the first time), and even at that, I *do* still pick up things that I missed the first time around.

There aren't too many movies I'll watch only once unless they didn't really grab me, or if I didn't feel they had much depth to them piquing my curiosity enough to invest more.

…and it ended with one of my favourite pieces of music enhancing a great song.

Re: Shutter Island

I got that the story was fishy when Teddy became immediately intuitive in the women's dorms.

I still stand by my notion that Teddy is actually Dolores.

Mark Ruffalo gave another of his understated and excellent performances.

Re: Shutter Island

I didn't know exactly what was going to happen, but the bizarre way Teddy meets his new partner in the middle of the water on a boat, when they would have more likely met at the office, or at least before the boat set sail, told me it was a film with a psychological edge.

Re: Shutter Island

I sort of knew the ending. That some of it was happening in his mind; I didn't know that almost ALL of it was happening in his mind really.

Overall, I still enjoyed the movie. Definitely worth a rewatch.

So many stories, so little time.

Re: Shutter Island

I still haven't seen that Movie but I have heard some pretty good things about it.

Re: Shutter Island

Well Teddy was seeing hallucinations, so I assumed something was amiss. The Portland/Seattle part reinforced it for me, as maybe his partner forgot his lie, or maybe the protagonist does not actually remember what he heard (and we saw through him). I did not expect the ending, but I was not surprised by it either.
