Joseph Cotten : Selznick's favorite

Selznick's favorite

I read in Edward Epstien's bio of Jennifer Jones that David O. Selznick always went out of his way to cast Cotten with Jones. Apparently he was a devoted husband and never hit on his co-stars. In case anybody doesn't know, David Selznick was quite in love with Jones and eventually married her. Portrait of Jennie, Since You Went Away, Duel in the Sun, and Love Letters. They appeared together in these four great films. The bio didn't mention whether Cotten was Jones's favorite. Does anybody know?

Re: Selznick's favorite

Joseph Cotten wasn't a devoted husband. He admitted to several affairs in his autobiography. His first wife attempted suicide around 1948/49 because of this. Cotten stopped philandering after that.
