STUDY OF HUNTER | Pop Bigotry

At the the time of this writing, Hunter Avallone's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/hunteravallone) has over 500,000 subscribers, and I feel like I'm the only one who finds this kind of concerning. Like, yeah, maybe Sargon of Akkad or Kraut & Tea or Armoured Skeptic are more worthy targets, because they actually kinda attempt to make arguments sometimes. But I think Hunter's special brand of awfulness needs a closer inspection. Also, he's older than he looks. I'm not just bullying a kid here.

Hunter's story actually begins kind of humbly. His early videos have that distinct popular YouTube feel about them–clickbaity crap (
), list videos (
), challenge videos (
), this thing.

-Here's when the problem all started, it's right here. Now, I dunno if it's a leak or a clog…"

-Oh my gosh, is that a squirrel!?!

-Yeah, they come through the plumbing sometimes-

-What the heck, are you harbouring life in your toilet?!
But then he evolves his craft a bit, to say the least. His first swerve towards politics is this video right here, called "How To Be A Liberal".

Now, when arguing, don't bother using facts. No, no. Facts are liberals' least favorite F-word.
Now, this is a really average video. It's pretty much a Ben Garrison in v-log form, but the numbers don't lie (308,810 views). They (
) really (
) don't (
). His early popularity comes to fruition when he releases "The Truth About Transgenders". "Transgenders". What a gross way of phrasing it. Like, he's referring to them as a separate species of people before we even click the video.

Man, I'm so bored. What can I do that's really disgusting, but is socially acceptable for some reason and will get me lots of attention? [DRAMATIC STING] I got it.
We're on another level, folks. I'm proud to announce that Hunter Avallone is a capital-C conservative. He's not even pretending to be a classical liberal, or a kinda-libertarian. He's conservative. A few other people have talked about this particular video, including people a lot higher on the ****lord scale than me (Jaclyn Green).

-Call me Jakelyn.

-AAAAGH, THAT SOUNDS TOO MUCH LIKE JACLYN!
So I won't go too far into the gritty details, but in brief, he thinks trans people are icky, and he's gonna tell the whole world. He slippery slopes the whole thing with the exact same examples everyone else uses, and then the video ends. This also marks the point where Hunter completely abandons his BuzzFeed roots. It's all political stuff from here, which is disappointing. I kind of liked "Who's The Plumber" (
).

Anyway, here he is telling a dude to save up for college by working at Starbucks.

-"Well, then go to college." Well, I can't afford college. It's too expensive.

-Do you even hear yourself when you talk? Not every job requires a degree. Go get a job at a fast-food restaurant or a clothing store. Save your money and pay for college. Go work at Starbucks. (i'm literally this close to losing my ****)
That's probably the most entertainingly wrong thing he's ever said.

I tried to satisfy the rule of threes and name two more examples, but it's hard to respond to blank propaganda. Most of his videos are just him spouting right wing talking points in the literal simplest way possible, without swearing, mind you. And I feel like I'm the only one who's kind of worried about this Disney Channel twink delivering his ignorant, racist, Trump-loving, trans-bashing ideas with the same YouTube celebrity clickbait sheen as someone like [[Superwoman]]. Some people refer to the HuffBuzzingtonFeed Post's sphere as pop feminism. I'd like to refer to Hunter Avallone and his shiny clickabit ilk–more on them later–as pop bigotry.

But hey, we're here to have fun. So let's respond to something. And look, here's one that considers me personally. It's called "Dear Gay People". Rare thing, that. Uh, usually homophobia is considered a bit off-brand, y'know, for right YouTube, but I digress.

Now before you get your rainbow panties in a wad, at least let me explain, okay? No, I do not hate gay people. I just think it's really important I make this video, especially after propaganda month–uh, I mean, Pride Month, and YouTube's cringy #ProudToBe video.
So this was released in the wake of YouTube's #ProudToBe campaign. And yeah, if you stretched the definition a bit, you could technically call it propaganda, but to what end? LGBT people being treated equally? If you agree with the message, then what's the problem with pushing it around? (hey im youtube making propaganda to try and save our dying company)

The video, as expected, got blown out with over 250,000 dislikes. So all those people must obviously be bigoted homophobes filled with hatred towards gay people, right? See, what people fail to realize is the video did not get a bunch of dislikes because a bunch of people are homophobic bigots. The video got dislikes because people are sick and tired of this gay agenda constantly being shoved down our throats. Pun intended.
Yep, that's it. Too many pro-gay videos. Now, let's see that many dislikes on one of the newest CinemaSins uploads (
)…(4,271 dislikes) Huh.

If you think it's just overexposure, you're fooling yourself. Yeah, it's a cheesy video, but 290,000 dislikes cheesy (
)? (there's been another 40,000 since hunter's video) There's obviously something different about this.

Most Americans are actually pretty accepting of gay people, even though the gays keep trying to claim love as their own little thing. In fact, according to Pew Research Center, support for gay marriage is at its highest point, with Americans favoring gay marriage on the rise and the opposition on the decrease.
And what about that 32%? That's a heck of a lot of individuals that still want to deny me my autonomy. Politics isn't a one-way street from conservative to progressive. That 32% can push back.

Most people are not uncomfortable when it comes to gay people. We do, however get a little bit uncomfortable when your gayness is so over-the-top, so flamboyant, so in our faces constantly. Yeah, like, just be gay and leave us alone about it.
So I get where you're coming from. Assuming you believe ~the gamz~ have achieved equality in the US, I'd understand if you thought we were attracting a little too much attention to ourselves. The thing is, we haven't. It's natural you wouldn't know that, though. Your privilege allows you to ignore systemic issues that we can simply observe happening to us. The channel Innuendo Studios has a very good series of videos on this (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJA_jUddXvY62dhVThbeegLPpvQlR4CjF), but I'll give you the abridged version, if you don't mind me getting a bit Freudian. Hunter, are you sure your grievances with this man in rainbow suspenders are purely aesthetic? Because a part of me can't help but think you're just reacting to your own illusory utopia being challenged. Why be so adamant that gay people don't remind you that they, uh, exist?

There's a difference between being gay and being a ******.
Hey, uh, how about you just…don't.

You can either be normal or you can be special. But a lot of the time, the gay community seems kinda like they want both.
Well, maybe being special is normal?

You want to be seen as normal, you want to blend in with society? Then blend in with society.
Yeah, Hunter. I wish I could. Unfortunately, I have to come to terms with the fact that my existence is inherently political. Before I can blend in, I need to let everyone know we're here. I mean, mostly not me. I do live in California, after all (
). But to just cease trying would be to balm the current political state and keep it from progressing.

Stop elevating you gayness as if it's this amazing accomplishment that deserves praise and worship. After all, being gay isn't a choice, so it's hardly an accomplishment.
Okay, it's this again. That's not what pride means in this context. I'm not literally proud that I have the ability to like dudes. It's moreso a punchy way to say that we're not ashamed of something we've been told is deviant and degenerate in subtle and unsubtle ways throughout our whole lives.

Well, I really hate to break it to you, but being gay is not a sign of bravery, especially in today's society. "Oh, gee, I'm really scared. I'm gay, and I don't know if I should come out. Well, here goes nothing. Hey everyone. I'm gay." Congratulations! You get championed by the media, an entire month dedicated to your sexuality, and a parade.
Yeah, your mom doesn't see you as a person anymore, and you're living on the streets. But hey. You got a parade.

Re: STUDY OF HUNTER | Pop Bigotry

How did you fit all of this in one post?

Re: STUDY OF HUNTER | Pop Bigotry

What fight exactly are you in? I'm pretty sure you won the fight in 2015, when gay marriage was legalized officially. (in the us)
A victory that was, yes. But getting the law on our side isn't the only goal. We have objective equality, but people act in squishy and subjective ways that can still be threatening.

You have equal rights in the US. Now, did it take way too long for you to actually get them? Yes, absolutely. But it's in the past, it's over, and you have your rights now. You aren't a victim, and no one is trying to take away your rights. Except maybe Muslims.
Oh, ****. Here we go.

For example, the Islamic State is–skip
..gle day, ISIS killed–skip
52% of Muslims believe homosex–skip
…slims from all over–skip

This is disgusting and horrific, and we should be fighting for those people's rights.
HOW.

Hunter, we're both American. Our greatest influence is on our neighbors. What is your plan for stopping these problems? Moving over there and protesting? Also, A being more oppressed than B does not mean B isn't oppressed. Are you about to say that there's no such thing as incandescent light-bulbs just because there's a sun? Is it impossible to have both a broken bone and a stomachache at the same time? (I'm sick of this talking point!)

Well, whether you're straight, or you're gay, I really hope you enjoyed hearing the truth. Please give this video a lake (like). Comment below, and subscribe to my channel. I post new videos all the time. Thank you, everyone, for watching. Peace.
Y'know, I said that this video was directed at me, and it's understandable that I would think that because it's like, in the title. But it's actually not. This video was made for Hunter's audience and no one else. For the sake of argument, say you're a 15 year old reactionary and you see this cheesy video about gay people. Naturally, you're fuming, but look here. Hunter Avallone is here to reassure you that you're not in the wrong. You're not homophobic, you're just tired of the gay agenda. Not only that, your use of homophobic slurs is totally okay, because they really are *******. The onus isn't on you to accept gay people, the onus is on them to stop giving you any indication whatsoever that they even exist. Just don't think about it too hard.

This is the essence of pop bigotry. It's conservative junk food, and it's taking over YouTube. Some people might say I'm overreacting, or picking on an easy target, or whatever. That's, uh, true, but I think my paranoia is at least somewhat justified. This post isn't just about Hunter, it's about his whole clique. YouTubers like Nate (https://www.youtube.com/user/NateTalksToYou), who doesn't upload nearly frequently enough to become a clickabit superstar, but nonetheless parrots some sincerely awful opinions.

-Hi, I'm Anna Akana, and I'm here to help women everywhere not get raped. Because it's totally our responsibility, right?

-Right. I mean, you don't want to get raped, correct?
Blaire White (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDmCBKaKOtOrEqgsL4-3C8Q), the famous trans YouTuber who built her entire career on relentlessly attacking the identity of another trans YouTuber for not being trans right, apologizing, and then going back to the abuse. But don't worry, she got the pronouns right this time!

So, you guys know that a while back, I made a pretty tearful apology video to Riley Dennis. [CRYING BABY] (was the baby noise really necessary)
Roaming Millennial (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLUrVTVTA3PnUFpYvpfMcpg), literal actual propagandist who gives a platform to white supremacists, but no one calls her out on it because she's hotter than the sun. This list is short right now, but it won't be for long. I personally find these people to be far more insidious and threatening than the rest of the s(k)eptic community. At least those guys are honest about how vile their views are, and don't use clickbait methods and PG delivery to market them to goddamn children. I made this post about Hunter specifically because I think he has the most potential to become a YouTube star. When looking at all four of these channels, Hunter definitely has the best production value. He's got the best work ethic out of the four as well, uploading at least once a week. And let's be honest. He doesn't look that bad, either. Now, I can't say he's my type. My tastes certainly lean further on the Richard Dawson side of things.

I want my body in your arms, Richard.

But don't think I can't recognize a conventionally pretty face when I see it. And honestly, thinking of how many teenage hearts this guy has won over makes my skin crawl. So there's a reason I made this. Contrary to whoever sent you over here to report the post, uh, I am not calling for Hunter's channel to be shut down. I'm making this to spread awareness of his type. These people aren't talked about enough. We can't just let these gallivanting heartthrobs go uncriticized. They might be easy targets, but these channels are easy targets with some real sway. Think of them like The Emoji Movie. Yeah, it's awful, and no one needs to tell you why it's awful, but its success has some serious ramifications as to where the big-budget film industry is going. It's going down the toilet, and so is politics.

So this was a bit of a short one. I really just had to get this off my chest. I feel like me and Kevin Logan are the only ones bringing these buzzigots into the light, and I want to see more, is all. I have some longer projects planned, both political and media related. See you then.
