The Wonder Years : Re-watching for the first time since it originally aired…

Re-watching for the first time since it originally aired…

And I have to say that I think Kevin is quite the little a-hole. I certainly don't recall feeling that way at all when I watched the show during its original run (I was ten in 1988).

On the other hand it kinda seems like a fair portrayal of a kid that age. I will say that I was not very nice at that age either. I was sort of a jerk as a kid. My sister wasn't though. She was a genuinely happy, positive and nice kid. But I digress. I just don't even like Kevin much at all and that's disappointing. :P

yep. also now watching it i see how angry the dad is....the dude is always in a bad mood. he growls more than he talks. no doubt due to his bacon addiction. all that grease clogging up his system. not enough blood to the brain.

Shut up about the bacon.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Most good looking guys are self absorbed, moody jerks.

Re: Re-watching for the first time since it originally aired…

Was Kevin really THAT good looking though? I do recall that at the time he was very popular with teeny boppers and so on and I thought he was cute but in being objective (pretend he is not a famous actor on a beloved TV show), was Kevin really that incredibly good looking? Frankly he seemed pretty dorky to me and I was always a little confused when girls like Madeline (who was a knockout) would throw themselves at him.

Agreed. As a young girl I was more interested in Winnie's boyfriends. Kirk MacGreger was cute to me as a kid.

Re: Re-watching for the first time since it originally aired…

I thought Kevin was cute. Not amazingly good looking or anything, but cute. I feel like his personalty throughout the show was pretty realistic. Now that I'm older, I have to agree that I see more of his negative aspects. But I don't think any young person is perfect, so it was realistic.
Honestly, the whole Winnie thing was the least realistic thing about the show IMO. I find it hard to believe that Kevin would be so obsessed for so long.

2nd time through i really notice how karen doesn't not fit in the family!

Watching it again more recently its shocking how little Karen is involved - she seems to go for episodes on end with no dialogue.

he was so moody b/c of all the bacon being consumed in that household. clogs the arteries, makes one prone to irrationality.
