Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I have only seen maybe 5 minutes of LVT's "Breaking the Waves" and that was more than enough for me. I am pretty sure that I would hate it. It looks unremittingly bleak and utterly pretentious and if I recall, it has that obnoxious hand held camera crap.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Eat Pray Love
Mamma Mia. Ah fuck it just out all musicals and modern Disney type films in this space.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Yeah, EPL, definitely. Julia Roberts at her most obnoxious. Uggghhh…

I didn't like Mamma Mia much, but I do love ABBA, so there's that.

I like some musicals and the last Disney film that I liked was "The Rescuers" (1977)

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Muriel's Wedding has a lot of Abba, and isn't a musical. I absolutely LOATHE musicals. I hate everything about them, especially the songs.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Do you like "Muriel's Wedding"? I liked it a lot. Wasn't a big fan of "Priscilla, QOTD", though…

Musicals I like…

"West Side Story" (1961)
"Cabaret"
"Singin in the Rain"
"Xanadu"
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (soooo inventive!)

"The Pajama Game" was okay.

I sorta liked "Thoroughly Modern Millie", but agreed with the film critic that said "what a nice 65 minute movie there is inside here".

And I am going to go ahead and call the Japanese "Jack and the Beanstalk" (1974) a musical. It has maybe five original songs in it and I like every single one of them. It's a total throwback to my childhood. I love that movie.

I need to check out a couple Astaire/Rogers movies. I can see them being charming.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Yeah, surprisingly I did. I don't normally go for that kind of film but it was pretty engaging. First time I saw Toni Collette on screen and she turned out to be one of my top 10 actresses.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

i just got to think of Dancer in the Dark, that is a musical, right?

suck it.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

It skirts a line. It isn't, but also is. It's certainly not breaking into absolute SHITsong every 5 fucking minutes, that's for sure.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

lol gotcha.

suck it.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Oh, don't forget Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Mr. Hutch.

I tired 20mins with Jack and the Beanstalk, but I didn't like the female voice work for Jack. It was unappealing.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Oh, don't forget Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Mr. Hutch.

Oh, you're right! Yes! I adore "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". It is perhaps my all-time favorite musical. In the back of my head, I was trying to remember a musical that was relatively low-key and cute with maybe 6 songs or so, and I came up with TMM; but what I think I was trying to remember was GPB. It is the perfect musical, with two enormously appealing female leads. Jane Russell was a strong lady who enjoyed her sexuality without apology (for me, she was a good example of a feminist who was also likable) and Marilyn Monroe was never funnier. And plus I like all of the songs in it.

Thank you for refreshing my memory, Toasty.

Remember trying to get me to watch James Bond, Mr Toast?

I did purchase the movie; I couldn't hack it! It was dreadful

By no fault of the movie, if that's the genre you're into

How long into the movie is the sexy part?

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

The entire thing darling!

You said you weren't a 007 fan, I just thought that one might have appealed to you more because there are a lot of sexy tough broads in it.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I didn't really give it a chance, to be honest

I do enjoy the sexy tough broads! Like Gena Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight

Yes, that one was good fun too.

Both are dire, you didn't miss a thing.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

any unseen Bertolucci crapfest

suck it.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I've only seen "Last Tango in Paris" and I didn't really like it.

I think De Niro and Depardieu go full frontal in "1900". I thought GD was very attractive back in the day. That movie is super long.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Bertolucci was a perv and a predator and he used and abused 19 year old Maria Schneider.

suck it.

Oh, get over yourself twerp! She was a poser herself.

Yes, I shouldn't stoop so low as to address your bollocks.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

BtW is bleak, but not pretentious. Some of von Trier's work is both so, so I get why you'd be hesitant. I thought it best great. I feel that way about Manderlay after seeing Dogville. It remains the one I haven't seen.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

i was about to say, i liked Breaking the Waves actually and thought it wasnt pretentious at all.

suck it.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Yeah. Powerful performances in that, too.

But I get why someone would side eye a von Trier's work and suspect it of being pretentious. I like that his work is not safe.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

It's just not my kind of movie. I saw DITD with two female friends and they were both in tears by the end. I found myself endlessly frustrated with the Bjork character. I could not find her sympathetic. Her victimization was poured on too thick for me. It was almost a parody within itself. And BTW has the same female as sacrificial lamb thing, and I just can't get into it.

"My life is over. I might as well dance with Johnny Slash!"

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Dancer in the Dark crushed me tho. powerful film and i just love Björk and the song performances in it..

suck it.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Loved that. But could only watch it once because that ending was one of the most raw and harrowing things I've ever seen.

Apparently von Trier broke Björk. She didn't act in a movie again after that.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

yeah i heard about the von Trier-Björk thingy. he is an asshole after all…

suck it.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

that ending was one of the most raw and harrowing things I've ever seen.

I wouldn't disagree with this. Public execution scenes are almost always too disturbing for me to watch. I have to look away.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I found that one particularly grim.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I like DITD, perhaps the only LVT film I have seen that I really enjoy and can easily revist.

I get the phony sympathy thing though, but it still worked for me and I had tears streaming down my cheeks by the end.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

My favourites are The House that Jack Built and Melancholia.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Oh, dear, he directed "Melancholia". That would figure. Again, not my kind of movie. At all.

"My life is over. I might as well dance with Johnny Slash!"

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I loved that. So very beautiful, and very upsetting.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I guess it's the director's aesthetics that I find unappealing. Because I love Rainier Werner Fassbinder and his movies are bleak/upsetting as all get out.

"My life is over. I might as well dance with Johnny Slash!"

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Judging by my 2 favs of his, it's his aesthetic I'm drawn to. Some of it is straight up art.

WSS could be considered bombastic, but I found it electrifying.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I think MM is referring to the remake, because he thinks its woke. He's already commented he likes the original.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

Oh, okay. Well, good for him, then. I did mention that it was the 1961 version I was referring to.

My friend liked the remake, but I am biased and might walk in to the remake with a bad attitude.

I am going back to see it on Wednesday. I was electrified.

I knew it would be excellent.

As TC says, I'm referring to the 2021 remake, which is woke bullshit.

Re: Name a movie that you haven't seen, but are pretty sure you would hate!

I know I can go see it for myself, but how is the 2021 remake "woke"?

Is there anti-white sentiment in it? I wouldn't like that at all.

West Side Story - 2021: A Woke Mess!

ab_channel=SkyNewsAustralia

Speilberg said he wanted to "correct the original film". That's extremely arrogant, and the very definition of "woke". He didn't even caption the Spanish dialog. Hey! You dumb Americans, you need to learn Spanish. Fuck that, and fuck him!

And the movie is a commercial flop. It cost $100 Million to make, and has only grossed about $53 Million. People are sick of this woke shit!

West Side Story - 2021: A Woke Mess!

I quite like Daisy Cousens. She is pretty much spot on with the bollocks of the feminist movement.

Here she said a thousand times….. "apparently". She hadn't even seen the film herself and was making talking points based on conjecture only and that is deceptive like the left.
