Hocus Pocus 2 : My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I loved it!

*slight spoilers*

After watching the original movie so many times (I usually watch it every October), it was a lot of fun seeing the characters again and not knowing what would happen next.

And it was hilarious! I laughed out loud several times. I don't know how anyone who liked the original version could dislike this one. Although I didn't really have any expectations. I just wanted to see the Sanderson Sisters again in a fun movie, and I got what I wanted. Although I was hoping Max, Dani and Allison would be in at least one scene, but they weren't in the movie.

I liked how the after-credits scene sort of hinted that the witches will be back again, even though there's almost no chance there will be another sequel.

Semi-interesting sidenote: Earlier today, someone outside was blasting their radio. I heard part of a song and it sounded like, "The witch is back" (to the tune of Elton John's "The Bitch is Back"). I was thinking, "I bet that's a song from Hocus Pocus 2. If so, that's a pretty good choice of song for the movie." When they sang it in the movie, I was like, "I knew it!" (Although technically, it's, "The witches are back.")

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I just finished my 4th run through. I can safely say this is the greatest movie of all time.

That's believable. Which scenes were your favorite?

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I couldn't pick just one. They were all so good!

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

What did you think about the cameo from Robert DeNiro?

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Hmm. I didn't recall seeing him in any of the now 8 times I've watched this movie so I went and checked the cast listing, and sure enough, he's not in it. You didn't even watch Hocus Pocus 2, you're just pretending to have for some sick reason, aren't you? For shame

He was unrecognizable with the monster makeup he was wearing, and he used a pseudonym for his role. A superfan of HC2 would know that!

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Actually I did know that, I was just testing you. You passed. It's good to see there are other HC2 superfans around.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I enjoyed the hell out of it. I can't pretend to be an expert on the original. I only sat down and watched it from start-to-finish last year. I was in my teens when it came out and it just wasn't on my radar. As an adult, I don't care. I'll watch a kids movie. I liked it. I liked this one too. I thought it was funny. I LOLed at the Asian girl's reaction when the shop owner implied he wasn't a virgin.

My only complaint is I am tired of redeeming villains. The sisters eat children for Christ's sake, but sure, we feel sorry for them now. Midler's monologue was a little odd too. She's devastated and a second later fondly remembering her sisters: smiling, laughing, reminiscing. Yeah, ok.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Yeah, it was a little weird they tried to humanize Winifred at the end.

Did you catch the scene after the credits?

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I don't think so?! Are you talking about the bird? No, that wasn't during the credits was it? them singing during the credits? I think I missed something.

I get that she was upset she killed her sisters, but the kid having sympathy for her and Winnifred smiling and reminiscing like some beloved person? What? I'm sick of villains being redeemed.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

After the credits, the cat ("Cobweb") jumped up onto a shelf and revealed a box that said, "BF Candle # 2" on it. In other words, there's another black flame candle, so the witches may be brought back someday.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Definitely missed that, thanks!

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I disagree!

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

☝️ This.

There were a million things they could have done with the sequel. They had 20+ years to plan it out and we get that sheet? 👎

Totally agree with you about the mayor. Dude came across as unhinged af.

I think they were hoping people would enjoy it regardless of the story because it had the original sandersons. I enjoyed the flashback but even that was cringe and overdramatic.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I loved it, too.

Watched it tipsy and laughed a shitton. Even teared up a bit at the end. Been watching the original since I was old enough to talk and loved seeing the original trio back for the sequel.

The "who are they performing for???" during "The Witches Are Back" cracked me up quite a bit, as well as Mary's Roombas.

Sarah was as endearingly stupid a character as ever.

I won't pretend it was AS good as the first, but it was hilarious and will be added to my yearly October watches.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Yay!

I laughed a lot too.

Yeah, it was hilarious when the girl said, "Who are they performing for?" And it was a surprise when Sarah was right there and replied, "YOU!"

Then they did something similar later with Mary being there when the girls tried to leave Walgreens, but that didn't have the same shock factor as the previous similar scene.

It was also funny when the phone filter made the witches think they looked "young and beautiful," and then the mirror in the store made them look ugly.

I thought it was clever how Mary just happened to have Roombas and they were there to clean up the salt.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I LOLed @

"Who are they performing for?"

That shit was funny. The black and Asian girls had great chemistry.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Also, yeah, even though I thought it was a little weird they tried to humanize Winifred at the end, I kind of liked that they were showing us she cared about her sisters, since she's often mean to them.

Not that that made up for the witches' past misdeeds, of course.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

For sure. We've been helping family with the hurricane and watched it in our motorhome after Mr. Jacky downloaded it off Disney+ through our Starlink.

Been a super stressful and sad weekend and it was nice to relax with some nostalgic fun, so I may have been more forgiving of the movie's strange finale than others. It definitely was a weird note to end on, even if I enjoyed it and really felt for Winnie.

Sorry if this was incoherent. I'm so tired, lmao.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

So is getting engaged at Disney, to many. Why do you care who likes what movie?

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

I saw two guys get married at Disney World a few years ago.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Oh yeah, the Disney weddings are super popular. Expensive, too! You could have a real destination wedding for the same cost.

I personally don't get the appeal, but to each their own. Good for them for throwing their dream wedding.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

A lot of same-sex couples were holding hands there too. I figured people consider it a "be yourself and don't care about what anyone thinks" kind of place. I had only been there one other time, several years earlier. It was fun, but not something I feel like I need to do again. I know people who go there every year.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

She'll love that! Disney is a magical experience for kiddos.

Hopefully DW learns to stop nickel-and-diming guests by then. It's really lame that they make fastpasses for some attractions cost extra even above Genie+ when all of them used to be free.

Re: My Hocus Pocus 2 thoughts

Are they doing pass renewals now? Back around when we went for my birthday they only had the Pixie Pass or whatever it was called.

I remember Disney saying they "hated" pass members because they spent less money in the parks overall, so I guess it makes sense, but it's still a shame that they let greed get in the way of showing families a great time (like they used to).

^ This! Just making a point that everything is cringy to someone. I'm a firm believer in the fact that there's no shame in liking "cringe" stuff, so long as it's harmless. People need to let people enjoy what the enjoy.

FTR, I personally like Disney engagements. They're cute.

I think it's sweet they got engaged there.

Yes, especially since Disney is important to both her and her partner. It was the perfect setting.
