Welcome Board : Link your IMDb account to your Filmboards account

to link your account, first enter your profile page (click your username), then scroll down to the just added "Sync with IMDb account" section. now, just follow these instructions:

Instructions:
1. Press the 'Get Key' button to receive a key.
2. Copy and paste the key into the first line of your bio using the edit profile option for your IMDb account and save it.
3. Enter the address of your IMDb profile (Ex. http://www.imdb.com/user/ur12345678/) into the second input box and press the 'Sync Profile' button to sync your profiles.
4. After you have synced your accounts you can delete the key from your IMDb bio.
5. Reload this page to see if your IMDb posts show up.

once completed, your account is claimed, even if your imdb username differs from your Filmboards.com name. all of your old posts will now be included in your own post history on this site. now no one can steal your identity.

Make sure to install the Filmboards browser extension to put the boards back inside IMDb like they never left! Available for Chrome and Firefox

I pressed the "Get Key" and nothing happened. I am using Microsoft Edge. I don't have Google Chrome or Firefox.

Very cool. Got it to work, but the lack of IE support on the 'get key' button confuses me. I figure it'd be easy to do cross-browser support, but what do I know?

I'm thinking… especially since you don't even change the usernames of the original posts… that it'd be best to leave them as they are, and don't let users edit them. That would preserve the "archive" sense of your ambitions here.

While I wouldn't have any inherent use for linking imdb accounts to my site, I'd still like to know a bit about how that works, if you'd care to tell me. Here, or in PM, if you don't want to give your secrets away.

Yes, by the boards' numbers! At this point it's not user-friendly enough for someone with a lengthy posting history.

Thanks very much for this, I followed the instructions and it works great____with one exception. My posting history shows all the threads where I made a posting on IMDB, but only the first page displayed (and a couple other pages) are working. All the other pages of my posting history, bring back the error message below when click on.

I just re-checked and all is working now. Quite odd because I was getting the errors for a couple of days. Thanks again, syncing the IMDB accounts is a great feature of this website.

As others have already stated: Thanks for making this archive of message board posts available, and thanks for setting up the sync with my IMDB account. I was really bummed to think that all of the IMDB message board (including my posts) might have just gone into the trash can forever.

Where is everyone?

what a great facility. I've now been able to check through the old posts of mine that are available - 19 pages online. That's fantastic, but what it reveals to me is that most of what I'd posted had already been deleted by IMDB - I don't mean through censorship of my posts personally - I don't think I ever had an actual post of my own deleted through direct moderation / censorship - but through the moderation / archiving process that IMDB used to engage in periodically. My suspicion was always that this had far less to do with pruning / tidying up, and far more to do with effectively censoring discussions that had become out of hand. Some of that might be down to trolling but I know that most of the posts that I wrote personally were political in nature, and generally critical of Hollywood / the movie industry. I believe IMdB has been engaging in stealth censorship of political criticism on their forums for years, and failing to get a grip on it, they decided to scupper the whole ship.

With respect to the above, a question I have is whether those already pruned / deleted posts (i.e. removed through 'routine' spring-cleaning) would themselves be archived anywhere and if so would they be at all retrievable?

it's probably not possible to restore deleted imdb messages as they didn't allow archiving until the final few weeks of the boards. imdb may have possession of more thorough archives themselves (doubtful), but these are not available publicly. i'll probably try sneaking into their headquarters at some point to find out, because nimda cares ppl.

@nimda: I don't know what kind of sorcery and witchcraft you used, but I am now kicking myself in the head for not finding this site/forum immediately after imdb's IDIOTIC DECISION to dump their boards.

Yes, your instructions to link to my nearly 12 year imdb account worked perfectly. But the real sorcery is how you managed to retrieve 9 years of my posting history!
