Leave it to Beaver Were either Jerry Mathers or Tony Dow good acti

Did Jerry Mathers start a pretty good and as he got older did he get worse? He was a cute kid and at least a fare actor from 9 while playing a 7.75 year old at the beginning of season 1 (by season 4 Jerry was 13 and was playing a 11 while as became a preteen to teen ager. When he was a good actor at 9 and did his acting evaporate with adolescence or not?
Was Tony Dow a more consistent actor throughout the series? He was 12 years old playing a 12 year old although he was said to be in 8th grade when age wise he would been a 6th or 7th grader probably a 7th grader. He generally acted as someone his own age with his friends but compared to Jerry’s Beaver behavior as a 11 & 12 year old he seemed to often be to easily made to do stupid stuff even when he knows it’s dumb or wrong. Is it because Wally was the older brother so he had to be a little more mature at similar ages of which we only comparable ages we have on both characters are about 12-14 years old?
