Black-ish : Last night's episode showed limitations of this show

Last night's episode showed limitations of this show

I enjoy Watcha blackish because it is a very talented cast and often has very funny episodes. Occasionally, however, they try to bring a lot of seriousness to the program (like the one where they were watching the Mike brown verdict) and it just doesn't work - it's awkward and painful to watch even if you appreciate and agree with the end message

Contrast this to the Jeffersons who dealt with serious issues, had a lot of heart, and was always entertaining. In one episode George Jefferson is accidentally invited to a klan episode. A man spits at George, they call him racial slurs, and their is drama, but there is laughter spread throughout the entire episode. Also, the end is uplifting and hopeful about the future. This is good entertainment

Blackish gets too preachy and self-absorbed to pull this off. It completely abandons storytelling and instead is a dialogue about the events of the day. Trouble is, Unlike all in the family it's not entertaininf because the family isn't mixed in race or opinion. The Jeffersons had an interracial couple (and George Jeffersoneventually had an interracial grandchild) to deal with this. Blackish doesnr. It just doesn't work.

Anyone agree? And notr, I am talking purely from an entertainment perspective and of what makes a good show. I'm br even talking about the substance. I thought the message at the end was not necessarily a bad one, it was the program thah was.

I THOUGHT IT WAS EXCELLENT. Funny as hell. Because that's what happened afterwards.

I was with a Friend who said she had to shut down her FB account because she supported Hillary and her friends supported Trump and started attacking her.

It was a funny episode.

Good for her friends

Agree. Love this show but this episode was heavy handed and wandered outside of the scope of the show.

It also shows Hollywood is not in touch with a large part of this country.

Re: Last night's episode showed limitations of this show

I agree that the "Black Lives Matter" ep didn't work, but I thought they pulled it off last night (the election episode). They were able to provide some social commentary, and they managed to leave a sufficient amount of laughs, at least for me.

If this show aspires to do that, and they can pull it off as well as they did with this ep, I am okay with it.

Re: Last night's episode showed limitations of this show

Last night's episode showed why Blackish is one of the best show on TV. Period. A comedy that has something to say. If it pisses off Trump supporters, then it's doing something right. Enough said.
