Kevin Costner : Kevin Costner's 20 year attempt at a comeback

Kevin Costner's 20 year attempt at a comeback

After his prime work with Brian De Palma, Oliver Stone, Ron Shelton and his own directorial debut and peak with Dances With Wolves, his last 20 years are those of a once top-tier figure who just can’t helm a bankable movie. Costner never caught a second wind. In his latest film, Criminal, Costner feels like he’s still looking for it, and hyperventilating: http://bit.ly/1TUILwR

He should've jumped on the Tarantino-train, he's supposedly had many chances to

Re: Kevin Costner's 20 year attempt at a comeback

True, I saw an interview with Tarantino a few years ago and he said Fandango was his favourite movie and praising Costner, he's a big fan of his.

Re: Kevin Costner's 20 year attempt at a comeback

There's two things working against any Costner comeback. 1. Scripts. He's just not getting them anymore. Once you're out, you're out, and it's almost impossible to get back in. Your successful peers gobble up the good ones before they ever get to you. 2. Kevin Costner. It's not the 80s/90s anymore. Costner is simply out of style.

man of steel was a comeback

Re: Kevin Costner's 20 year attempt at a comeback

"Once you're out, you're out, and it's almost impossible to get back in."

Go say that to Michael Keaton and Sylvester Stallone. Keaton starred in the best picture winner of the last two years, and Stallone just received another oscar nomination. Where their careers were before lately? Well, for Sly's it has been going up since Rocky Balboa but Keaton's just freshly started again. So no, it's not almost impossible, you just have to catch the right train.

Re: Kevin Costner's 20 year attempt at a comeback

McFarland USA was excellent so was Criminal. Costner has never lost the ability to act. The problem is Hollywood is no longer about great acting ( For example: I do not see Meryl Streep in A-List Pictures anymore). It's about comic book movies, remakes, prequels & sequels. Look at what makes the most money? Star Wars then Fast And The Furious ( Paul Walker died and they are still planning three more). Not to mention the ONLY big budget movie that came out last summer that was not in one of those categories was Warcraft.

Totally agree, Hollywood these days just turns out one CGI crapfest after another quality movies seem to be a thing of the past. There was a time I went to the movies 2 or 3 times a month now it's twice a year, if you're not into the franchise movies there's very little to watch. His new movie HIdden Figures looks interesting though.
