Actors and Actresses : Judy Garland - super sensitive

Judy Garland - super sensitive

I remember reading a story about ultra sensitive Judy Garland and one time she walked into a room with contrasting wallpaper patterns, it was too much for her senses and it caused her to faint.

Damn

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

I can't really comment much on Garland and her films and acting, because I have only seen Wizard Of Oz and Judgement At Nuremberg, in which she only had a small support role. She was very good in both.

Many admirers and fans also like to play pity party with her and like Monroe too, blame the Hollywood patriarchy for their downfall. I'm not so sure if I can buy into this, because while they suffered, they were will still their own intelligent creatures with the world at their feet and had more than most.

Garland could have been a poser and hadn't gotten out of this habit for attention. Could it not have just been fluke that she passed out while commenting on wallpaper, due to some alcohol and drug cocktail mixture she had previously taken?

The recent film Judy with Renee Zellweger is supposed to be quite good.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

I know Judy was an alcoholic and addicted to Seconal. But I mention this incident because it is exactly the experience I had visiting my friend's toxically messy apartment. I periodically had to go out into the hallway to regain my composure. You literally had to find a place for your foot to go. And I was not under the influence. For both good and bad, I am a hyper sensitive individual.

I have a moderate amount of sympathy for Judy in so far as she was a human being. Everybody has hard times.

I honestly don't think I can ever go back to his place. It was just awful and he said i was over reacting. I don't think so.

The mess is all internalized rage.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

It would have been the energy of the place too that wasn't good.

He wasn't making an effort, but if he was coping with it himself, then it is his space.

Are you still there?

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

He doesn't make an effort. No, I'm about 30 minutes away from the comfort of home. Trying to decide which 80s slasher it will be tonight.

The energy is godawful. It's like living in the basement inside the "Mother's Day" home.

Did you get my PM?

The Thing is on The Musicbox at midnight Fri and Sat. I was anticipating you may have had an opportunity to go.

I'm impressed with Hell Night. Always liked it and it has color and atmosphere like The Funhouse.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

Where did you sleep?

About Judy, she was a little chubby as a teen and the studio heads gave her diet pills and I guess she got addicted

I also read she wanted to be glamourous. Marilyn wanted to be a serious actress

I guess they both didn't appreciate what they had

Yes, Judy called her mother "The real Wicked Witch"! You do not give amphetamines to a child. That is unconscionable.

Marilyn had such a wonderful gift for comedy. It is so stupid how drama is revered over comedy.

I agree, they say it's easier to make someone cry than to make them laugh

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

I loved her and Jane in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes".

And I thought she was very good in "Bus Stop". I don't really think she gave any bad performances. She didn't have much faith in herself.

I am definitely in the Marilyn sympathy camp. There was something about her that made you want to protect her. I thought she was precious.

I've always loved her

I used to think the same, but now I realize better. I was more of a drama person, due to my own outlook on things, but seemed to have gone the other way now.

If one has a gift, they need to roll with it. MM couldn't escape her sex symbol image and like FF too, they thought they have something to prove and would be revered more. It is egoism and narcissism at its finest.

These 2 talented women were already blessed and accepted for who they were.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

I recall going to see Arthur - 81' and was surprised at how much I liked it, because I usually avoided comedy, unless on t.v. Comedy was a small tube thing for me as a kid, a cinema movie had to have and give a whole lot more.

I didn't like stupid slapsticky stuff either, but as I got a bit older I started to lighten up a bit, but I just loved drama. I guess I created much of my own in my life too.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

I agree that both were charmed and blessed. Farrah had it easier than Marilyn as she always knew she was very much loved by both her parents. I never think of Farrah as a victim but she let that sleaze seduce her and she took it upon herself to become embattled and embittered. For me, the ? for FFM is so much more baffling. I love Farrah and I don't want to say anything about my Angel, but I thought it was snooty and ungrateful (not to mention unreasonable) of her to abandon a hit tv show, become a true icon and then just pretty much throw it all away on something so less suited to her personality and her charms. I do think this was a bit of posturing on Farrah's part. In all those 80s victim roles, it's like Farrah is lashing out at the thing that she thinks of as her enemy. Like I said, nothing but smiles for Jill Munroe, but I didn't appreciate the attitude she copped after "The Burning Bed" won acclaim.

I think Marilyn was a lot more conflicted and troubled inside her own skin. I could see ego in side Farrah, but what I saw in Marilyn was almost a total lack of ego. I would say that Marilyn had a well-developed 'id', but that's not going to take you very far in life.

Kind of like when Woody Allen was getting disgusted with making comedies (which is his best gift) and then attempted something in the Bergman style with "Interiors", but without any of Bergman's depth. I know you like the movie. I thought the characters were unsufferable, except Pearl.

😺 Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't. 🤨 Let's go, Brandon! 🤨 Try that in a small town.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

Good one MM and I don't either.

I suppose the OP does because he is a friend of Dorothy.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

Amazing how some super sensitive people are only sensitive to themselves and not to others. Ego again.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

Most mentally ill people are very self-centered. Of course, that didn't keep the public from wanting as much from Judy Garland as Judy Garland had to give. I just read an interesting quote from Tennessee Williams - "Egos eat egos". (He said this while writing "Suddenly, Last Summer") It's a strange phenomena. Carol Burnett strikes me as the rare case of a live performer who has her head on her shoulders and still relates to all the human things. Maybe Julie Andrews, too.

I'm am finding this to be more and more prominent and using the illness as an excuse too, rather than help themselves.

Many will use a diagnosed mind disorder to play pity me/victim for attention and entitlements, when they wouldn't know what a genuine mentally ill person goes through.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

That's probably what happens when you're fed drugs as a young child. Fucks with your brain.

Just because I'm not on THEIR side, doesn't mean I'm on YOURS.

Drug dealers are evil people.

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

A CHILD IS WAITING
she plays herself in this and everyone knew it which is why the producer casted her first

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

She was probably on some pretty hefty shit but sure the wallpaper caused her to faint.👌

Re: Judy Garland - super sensitive

I can see it. I have a friend whose place is so messy that I can't be in his apartment for very long without having to step into the hallway.
