The Fly II : Is this any good?

Is this any good?

I just got a hold of a copy of David Cronenberg's The Fly, and loved it. However I see he had nothing to do with this film and was wondering if it was actually any good or just a cheap cash in on Cronenberg's great movie.

Re: Is this any good?

cronenbergs fly is a much better film, its blend betwen sci-fi, drama and horror is exellent. But this is a very different movie it blends drama and action and it really isnt that interesting as cronenbergs.

To give you a perspective cronenbergs "the fly" is like Jaws while this is like piranhas *cringe*

Re: Is this any good?

meh this movie reminded my of The Thing (both aliens, and both have pretty grody scenes of people being killed). The beginning scene I was like wtf, since if you saw some coccon thing coming out of a woman's stomach, you'd take that thing around the back and put a bullet through its skull. It was alright, though the ending was kind of ironic as that Bartok guy got what he deserved.

Re: Is this any good?

i liked it. the first one was much better, but this is definitely a worthy sequel.

Re: Is this any good?

The movie is not a total catastrophe, like most horror sequels. It actually tells a decent story with a satisfying resolution. You just have to get past the corny 80s special effect. But the writing here was definitely far above average.

Re: Is this any good?

this looked like a kids movie at first, then throughout you feel like you're watching a teenage version of the fly, alot seem repeated from the first fly movie and this makes you feel you've seen one you've seen them all. notice one actor looks and sounds like frank langella. not the same fun special effects here, looks more like something from alien than the fly.

trouble times pass on by,
trying to make it through the storm,
at the fast train trying to hang on,
never knowing how it roll,
when nothing else was in sight,
in the trouble times,
just hoping for mercy all through the shaky ride.

Re: Is this any good?

No, it's not good, IT'S GREAT!
Best character, misguided villain, SCORBY!

Re: Is this any good?

Cronenberg's 1986 film is a classic; great performances, atmosphere and good blend of drama, romance and horror that still holds up exceedingly well even today. A definite 9/10.

This one could have been better, but definitely not a waste of time. Its much more revenge centered and plays out more like a standard B horror flick. A well earned 6/10 at best.
