Prom Night : Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Some of you guys seem to really hate this movie....
Why?
Well, I don't really watch a lot of horror movies, and I did expect more blood and stuff, but I kinda liked it...
Didnt anyone else?

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Hey, I love it! I saw it twice in the theatre, got a free poster, and bought the unrated dvd. Someone here said they wanted to kick me in the nuts for loving it. I think it's just because it's not like the original, that these guys are being bitchy about it.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

People hate it for being a teen thriller...with a body count, not including much blood and gore and for being released in theaters with a PG-13 rating.

I like it, though.

I saw Prom Night at the movies with My Real Dad and I loved Prom Night with Brittany Snow. I have Prom Night The Theatrical and Unrated Versions on DVD with Brittany Snow

No problem....

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Ummm no people hate this movie because its a piece of *beep* One of the worst movies ive ever seen in my life! Horrible acting, horrible directing, terrible plot and story, it was lame, cheesy, and retarded, the characters were idiotic and annoying as h*ll, need I go on? Seriously, I think the ONLY people who could possibly enjoy this piece of crap are like 14 year olds! Certainly not anyone with any good taste in movies, especially horror movies. And I do like some PG-13 horror movies so thats not why I hate this movie. I hate it for the reasons stated above.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

but if it WAS like the original, they'd still bitch about it saying how it wasn't original. So I think they probably hated it from the start. See they say if it had more violent shots and blood it'd be better. If it did have it then they'd say it's unrealisticly violent and the original didn't have to do that to be scary. Now it doesn't have much violent shots or that much blood they are still bitching. They just don't know what they want. They just to hate it 'cuz it's a remake.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

hey aeropostaleman, maybe they can just not remake a classic all together?

by the way, aeropostale is stupid

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Okay, I honestly did not see the original. I am not big on horror flicks. However I liked the sound of this movie's plot line. You can call me an idiot. You can call me lame. I am not 14. I can promise you that. I just thought that it was a pretty good movie. But then again I am just not big on horror flicks and this one was good in my opinion. Now had I seen the original I probably would have thought otherwise because I am the first person to say you can't remake the classics. I got very angry the other day when they announced that Steven Spielberg was remaking Harvey (my absolute favorite movie). And there are countless others that I wish they hadn't remade. Some remakes are okay. I will say that they are never the same as the original however they are sometimes enjoyable.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

i kinda liked it,, i haven't seen the original,, although the director claims it's not a remake. i've watched alot of horror movies, this isn't too bad.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

The original is terrible, too. You just have bad taste.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

People hate it because it's completely void of tension and an interesting killer. The story is also very thin, which is saying a lot considering the slasher genre. The production values are decent, and the cast is okay. Otherwise it's a stinker.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

It didn't bother me. It has a lot of silly moments but I wasn't expecting a full on artistic tour de force - I was expecting hollywood fun. That's what I got. I loved it :D

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

like someone said i liked it for what it was..! it wasnt the best movie ever but it wasnt horrible either..!

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I personally love this movie. And I'm pretty sure the only people that hate this movie because it's "not as good as the original" are old enough to have seen the original when it came out.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

for the type of movie it was, i actually thought it was pretty good- 3.7 seems really low for this - this should at least have a 5 on here - i've seen it a few times now and it's good every time i see it

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

When it was in theaters, I heard it was terrible from numerous people. I just found it on demand on my TV today so I gave it a shot. It really wasn't THAT bad. I expected it to be much worse

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I liked it too. I liked that it didn't have a lot of blood and gore because a lot of the old horror/thriller movies didn't have a lot of blood in them thus allowing the viewer to use their imagination. Think Psycho, Halloween et al- they didn't show much blood and gore but relied more on actual scares and thrills.

Not like the so called "horror" movies of today such as Saw, Hostel, the classic Horror movie remakes etc which are so filled with blood, guts and gore that it actually makes me feel sick. When I go to a horror movie I want actual scares and thrills- not over the top gore.

Most people that don't like this movie probably wanted a full on gore movie not a horror movie because with today's way of movie making most people have no idea what an actual horror/thriller movie is and that is why they are disappointed.

IMO movies that have to rely on disgusting over the top gore instead of actual storyline and thrills, such as Saw and Hostel, are really just entertainment for the brain dead.

Live extravagantly. Life is not a dress rehearsal

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I completely agree with you that being said I can't believe you would say that THIS movie is any good

especially when you say you've seen the so called "classic" horror

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I don't like excessive gore either, but the scenes of the killer stabbing people half a dozen times at close range, then cutting some girl's throat while hugging her to his body, but never getting a drop of blood on himself or the floor, was beyond belief.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Prom Night?

I didn't even like the title - sounded like a teen-flick.

And - it was.

I saw where they were going with the whole idea, but it was just too phony for me. - The movie had me saying "OK, what sence does that make?" Throughout most of the movie.

I wish they would have went into more detail as to how he became obsessed with her. - From the photos it looks like he was a lab partner or teacher maybe.

But how'd it get to this? -

But overall - here are some of the scenes that made me say - WHY!?

He slices a sleeping inmates throat right before he excapes - Why and where did he get the tool?

He excapes through a vent in his cell. - That was just too easy.

Why did the black chick go into that under construction part of the hotel instead of continuing her way down the stairs?

Why wasn't that "under construction" part of the hotel sealed off from guest?

When the elevator stops in the "under construction" part of the hotel - Why was the black boyfriend calling for his date - he really thought that she stopped there? - I've had an elevator call and bring me to a wierd place before, but my reaction was more like. "What the *beep* is this place?" "Why'd it bring me here." - I may stick my head out and look around, but I won't assume someone is there unless I see an actual person.

Why did they go upstairs to have sex when she was overly concerned with being crowned Queen. - They knew they didn't have time. And even if they had time to have sex and make the ceremony - Wouldn't it look bad to be all sweaty and cloths wrinkled, hair and make-up messed up - getting crowned?

Why did the detective pull the alarm? - Didn't he realised by flushing everybody out the convict could escape easier?

The detective inquired what room the criminal was staying in, but never asked what room the girl was staying in. - Wouldn't it have been smart to post a cop near the girl's room.

Once they found out the criminal was there - all they had to do was keep an eye on the girl. - Pulling the alarm was the dumbest of ideas. - There was no need to disrupt the prom. They could have just kept an eye on the girl and followed her home and let homicide deal with the housekeeper body that was found.

I hated the fact that the girl everyone hated lived while her competition died - But that's a personal issue of mine.

How did the guy cut the phone line which was in the front of the house with out the cop sitting guard see him?

When the Detective in the bed room walking towards the closest - he is distracted by a sound from down stairs - He completely ignores the dead body (girl's prom date) on the bed. - How did he not see this? Maybe the criminal hisself should have hide there.

Towards the end when the girl dreams about everything before it happened - why didn't she take heed to that permonition? - I mean everything including the TV program was exactly alike - She should have asked the boyfriend to come to the bath room with her.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Also, how did the killer take out anyone and everyone with a pocketknife?

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I agree with all your comments, the movie didn't really add up. I still really liked it. However, I've only watched it on netflix instant, I probably wouldn't have liked it that much if I'd had to pay $14 to see it in the theater.

To add to the list of absurdities:

How come the killer never has any blood on him?

In the scene where Donna goes to the bathroom at the end to take pills - in the time she was in the bathroom the killer somehow manages to kill the policeman, carry him back to his car, sneak up to Donna's bedroom, kill her boyfriend and hide in the closet. And he manages to kill the boyfriend without a struggle or sound which Donna would hear in the bathroom. And still no blood on the killer.

And how come the killer is so great at killing everyone but Donna? Granted he may be being a bit gentler with her, but come on, she seems to be the only one who can effectively kick, bite and run away from the killer.

Also, the scene where he's in her hotel room, why does he go to the right side of the two beds? If he thinks she's under one of them, wouldn't he go check from the middle? And why does he walk so slowly, you'd think he'd realize the police are coming and time is of essence. Furthermore, why didn't he grab her when she was going for her purse and he's standing behind her feeling her hair? Why does he walk away and then reenter the room from the door.

As far the construction, they are on the third floor - so we're to believe that a 5 start hotel had a floor full of construction on the second floor?

Stupid film, but good brainless fun

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

well i think it's great but i havn't finished watching it yet and i'm watching it with my bf and we're both pissed out our heads. cheesy horror films ftw!

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

While I often find myself defending movies that other people go over the top hating, I found this movie to be a godawful, boring mess.

From the beginning you knew who the killer was, there was never any type of twists, there was virtually no gore, and as the post above states, a lot of the movie just made NO sense. I actually found myself getting angry while watching this at how stupid the whole thing was.

PG-13 horror movies need to just go away. Or, if filmmakers insist on continuing to make them, they need to come out with a new franchise along the lines of the old TV show "Goosebumps", and state right in the marketing when a movie is truly being made for little kids. I can't imagine any adult finding this entertaining in any way.

I'm not trying to sound pompous, but there are so much better horror movies out there, and this movie just made me angry.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I agree with KingPretz about the lack of surprise with regard to the killer. The original movie had a neat twist at the end, exposing the killer and his motives behind the murders. That's what made it less engaging for me.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I did not hate it. But I expect some blood and gore when I see a slasher film.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

When I saw it I saw with that in mind that it would be predictable, corny and all that stuff but that is what a splatter is. I have never seen a splatter that doesn't follow these rules. I do agree with the PG-13 that everybody ar wining about but I thought the killer was awesome so the PG-13 didn't matter.
So I liked it.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

No, it was terrible.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I personally didn't like it because of it's prevalent mix of predictability and stupidity. Every time someone said they were going to go upstairs it was time for them to die. The cop was an idiot so the bad guy could escape whenever needed. I always knew what was coming and that threw any suspense/tension out the window. That's the basic thing that NO horror movie should lack! Prom Night did and that's why I myself am not a fan.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I loved it and I am a 35 year old male:)

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I've seen worse, and I certainly never mind seeing Johnathon Schaech in anything he does. ;^)

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

i just watched it last night at a birthday party and thought it was just as good as the first time i saw it when it first came out. i personally think it was one of the best horror movies ive seen.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Meh. It was pretty cheesy, but it was one of those crappy movies that I found sufficiently entertaining.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

Yea, it was pretty back. they made the prom the back story from the start of the movie, bad idea. Couldnt care less about the killer, all we needed was the body count at the prom without the identity of the killer til the last 15 minutes of the movie or so.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I liked it. I really dont hate it at all. I thought it was decent. Atleast a 3/5 movie. I love Brittney Snow. She's one of my favorite actresses. But seriously, this movie isnt as bad as people say it is. I mean, theyre is some suspense, and it is predictable and some parts dont make any senes, but its still a good movie that I could watch every now and then. Especially with friends.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I thought it was decent. I think the killing scenes could have been waaaaay better. But overall I thought it was alright. It's a teenage film. I think people walk into those types of movies with too high of expectations

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

are you kidding? this movie is complete *beep* I stepped right in the middle of it...gotta go clean my shoes..

Re: Is there anyone else who doesn't think its so bad?

Unfortunately I've seen a lot of bad horror movies, and in comparison, I thought it was a decent movie. I like horror movies, but I don't like all the blood and guts that usually accompanies them. So for me, I thought it was alright. I'd watch it again.

Re: Is there anyone else who doesnt think its so bad?

I actually like it.

I didn’t set a lot of high expectations going into to it so there wasn’t a whole lot to disappoint. The opening scenes set the tone that this wasn’t going to be a “blood and gore” flick. (The PG-13 rating was also a clue). I found that refreshing.

After that, the fun was trying to figure out who was going to be killed and how they’d logistically bring those things about. Generally, they fell back on some “tried-and-true” contrivances (someone getting depressed and going off to the hotel room, the horny teenagers taking the phone off the hook). It wasn’t totally predictable as it unfolded but came pretty close to it. The bellhop getting killed did surprise me.
