Hume Cronyn : Hume Cronyn is also a great screenwriter. Who Agrees?
Re: Hume Cronyn is also a great screenwriter. Who Agrees?
I am afraid I don't agree, on the basis of "Rope," anyway, where I don't think Patrick Hamilton's play was well served by the adaptation. "Rope" is overall an interesting movie, but it is also, well, kinda gimmicky. I don't think it can be called entirely a success.
However, it is interesting that HC was involved in the adaptation. I would like to read some of his other stuff.

ROPE was a great film. The dialogue was crisp and effective [as were the performances]. It shows Hume Cronyn as an imaganitive writer [I haven't seen UNDER CAPRICORN yet].
Cronyn also wrote FIREFOX which he appeared on Broadway and in the television film with Jessica Tandy.

Hi Everyone,
I think Hume Cronyn is also a great screenwriter. He did an amazing job playing his roles in Shadow of A Doubt and Lifeboat. But I think he was also a great screenwriter.
He did the adaptation for Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece Rope. And I think Under the Capricorn is very underrated. I thought his adaptation was very good.
