Just, no. He seems like a smart character. What kind of career do you think he ended up with where he can't take a day or a week off work? Jobs where you aren't allowed to take a personal day or a vacation day - those are jobs for teenagers and college students. Or people who end up being a burger flipper.
A movie about a teenager playing hooky from school and doing all sorts of things around the city, that worked fine. A movie about an adult calling in sick to work then having fun - that would be cringeworthy.
Possibly Ferris could be the boss or parent, and the younger person is ditching school or work. And this time it's Bueller who is in Rooney's position. That may work.

It would be tough to do a sequel to this film. It would be tough to find a satisfying plotline.

yeah exactly i mean come on i would cheapen this film and its legacy so much if they made a sequel some films it would be a sin for them to have a sequel or remake bc it would cheapen the original film and dirty it.
the only people who want a sequel to this are ignorant people of today the youth of today who dont know that some films should never be remade or have a sequel.
i think it might be that they are ok with badly made, mediocre remakes and sequels since the '00s started to now so they think every film should be remade bc that is the trend of nowadays in no creativity hollywood since the '00s started to now.
nobody has ever asked for a sequel or remake to this film.
i am very angry at the fact that they actually remade another film that should have never been remade or have a sequel, top gun. that film should never have been touched.
and they actaully copied the scene of the aircraft coming into the airport and disturbing the people in the station in a funny way. really? why do i want to watch the same movie twice?

Actually, the real reason was it didn't make enough money. Hollyweird is just in it for the money.

It made over 10 times its fairly low budget.
A sequel wouldn't work. It needed to be made by the time the 80's was over and it wasn't necessary.
The film worked for what it was, for when it was made.
I didn't see it at the time, as I was over the Hughes hype, but loved it when I saw it much later in the late 90's.

Just checking out the first 4 Hughes "directed" films from the mid 80's and while Ferris made more money than all of them, Breakfast Club made the most when taking budget ratio into account. It is only listed as $1mill budget and made over $50mill worldwide.

bc we dont need sequel for such ground breakingly great and classic films. some films are so great that it would be a sin for them to have a sequel or remake that is why this film never had a sequel or remake.
it would be wrong and feel wrong to show him later in life or earlier in life in a movie or a tv show oh they did that though that sucks.
one thing i love about the '80s is a lot of the classic films well at least the teen films like john hughes fils never had a sequel. this is bc it would be wrong for them to have sequel or remake.
