Monte Markham : His TV series

His TV series

I have a vague memory of Monte Markham in his own TV series. He played a character & the same character's grandfather who was from the Alaskan goldrush & frozen, found & revived then learning to live in the 'new age'.
I can't see it in his credits.. Can someone help me with the name of this series?

Re: His TV series

This series was called The Second Hundred Years. My father watched it and told me about it. It would be great if this show can be released on DVD

Re: His TV series

I was wondering about same series. When I was a child I really liked it.

The Second Hundred Years

Yes, The Second Hundred Years...

I'd been trying to remember the title of this show for years. I'd asked people about it from time to time but never found even one person who remembered this series. I'd watched it as a child and it obviously stuck with me.

The other day I watched, "Anatomy of a Murder" and Arthur O'Connell played a key roll in that movie. (He had played Monte Markham's characters' son and father respectively.) It got me thinking about this series again and thanks to IMDb I was able to find it under Arthur O'Connell's history.

I'd love to see this show again, there were few shows that made such an indelible impression on me. I was 6 I guess when this show came out.

Anyway, I'm rambling... I just wanted to thank you for this question!

Re: The Second Hundred Years

I didn't notice it listed in his listing of credits. During which years was it on? I'm wondering if I have a vague recollection of it.

I've always thought he was a hotty.....just gorgeous. I just bought the first three seasons of MTM Show on DVD, and I just finished watching the episode in which he plays John Corcoran, an army buddy of Lou's who is separated, a womanizer, and going after Mary. He was quite a doll (and, I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the reruns of Mary Tyler Moore).

I also remember Monte on the very first episode of Ellery Queen. I think that it was a special 2-hour episode, and I distinctly remember the last scene, and who committed the murder, and how the clue was left by the victim to help Ellery solve the crime. I loved that show...I always wished it had run longer. I don't know if Jim Hutton had died while that show was on. Or, if the show was taken off the air before he even died (I'll have to look that up now on IMDB).

Re: The Second Hundred Years

"The Second Hundred Years" (1967)appears in the number 103 position on Monte Markham's "Actor-Filmography" list and in the number 33 position on Arthur O'Connell's... Just in case you wondered, Anatomy of a Murder (1959) appears in the number 75 slot on Arthur O'Connell's list.

I'm 45 now, and was only a little girl when Monte Markham appeared in this show and on the Mary Tyler Moore show. But I knew a hottie when I saw one even then! He was inarguably a very handsome man, but his very distinctive voice is as much a reason to remember and notice him as his gorgeous appearance.

He was one of a kind.

Re: The Second Hundred Years

As I recall, Monte also appeared in the very b68 short-lived "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" as well as having made some appearances on "Love, American Style." I distinctly remember one episode where, on his character's wedding night, he was stuck in a chastity belt.

Re: The Second Hundred Years

I remember that episode well. He also was in a few TV movies, my favorite was the remake of Death Takes a Holiday, in which he played Death in human form and nobody died for a while.

Re: The Second Hundred Years

Hi...It is all but forgotten, but Monte Markham played PERRY MASON in a very short-lived remake of the series in 1973.

Re: The Second Hundred Years

I remember Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, the sitcom starring Monte Markham when I was a kid. I've been looking for a DVD of the complete series, but have had no luck so far. Deeds was one of those good sitcoms that should have been on the air longer than the networks gave it.

Re: The Second Hundred Years

Loved Ellery Queen and was delighted when I found the show for sale. Not an official release but great copies! Only thing missing is the teaser at the opening: This ____________ is about to be murdered: was it ___ ______ ______ or ______? Match wits with Ellery queen and see if YOU can guess, "who dunnit."

Re: The Second Hundred Years

"The Second Hundred Years". The only time I recall that show being shown in syndication was in the early morning hours on the USA network sometime in the late 1980's. Will it ever be back again, you think? It oughta be. I remember when it was on in prime time. Most amusing. His son, played by Arthur O'Connell, I recall being a David White(Latty Tate from "Bewitched")lookalike.
