Married... with Children : God, this show is a fucking documentary

God, this show is a fucking documentary

This show perfectly captures the essence of everyday life. The way you have to work tirelessly and relentlessly for the most marginal little thing to go anywhere at all in your favor only for life to undo all your progress on a whim. I like how this series even makes a point of showing that problems don't even have to abide by any sort of logic or natural law; things go wrong simply because they do, just like in real life.

I don't know how this show can be called a comedy. It's far too realistic to be funny.

Well, I'm feeling better now since I am the proud author of a book. Dying is Easy is now available on Lulu.com and it is proof that even I am capable of winning once in a while and were there's for me, there's hope for anyone.

You probably had to turn off the explicit content filter. This book ain't for sissys!

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

I wouldn't call MwC realistic. You just described Roseanne.

MwC had over-the-top humour like Al getting struck by lightning and tossed like a dummy, Peg's mum being so overweight she makes the house rattle like an Earthquake, Peg not knowing how to use an oven to forgetting her kids names…it wasn't realistic in the least.

Monster, how should I feel? Creatures lie here, looking through the window.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Roseanne was a good show. The Conners sucks, and I don't think the first season of the re-boot of Roseanne was very good, just like the final season, but I guess it was because they lost their working-class ways after hitting the lottery.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Wasn't winning the lottery all in Roseanne's mind like coping with Dan's death? I watched the first season when the show came back in 2018 and they retconned it changing the girl's boyfriends who did die (Mark was his name?). I never came back for season 2 after they killed off Rosie. Laurie Metcalf is insufferable.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Yeah, his name was Mark.

I think that was retrospective revisionism for the audience to accept the re-boot. They won the lottery, and then in the last episode, Dan dies, which isn't sentimental, it's just cheap. Same thing happened in "The Wonder Years". An online friend of mine actually said he cried, which was the first time he expressed any emotion, but it was so cheap, and this guy is a very intelligent fella.

Metcalf bugs the hell out of me, but Darlene is twice as bad in this new re-boot shit. I just saw two episodes yesterday, and it's bad, but it goes down easier because there is a history. Roseanne is too strong of a personality to just kill off. I wonder if there's any chance she could come back. I didn't care for her rolling all over the place with the "celeb rabbi" schmooley to placate criticism, or her sudden interest in judaism, but she WAS the show.. I do like John Goodman a lot, but with Sarah Gilbert "producing" (money man), she tries to take over as the supposed new queen, but her acting is so awful, which is odd, because her acting/character in the first 9 seasons of Roseanne is pretty good.. I'm sure it's all politically corrected. DJ (the worst actor) marrying "Gina", the black girl he didn't wanna kiss, which was actually a good episode. Neither of them have been in the new re-boot for longer than 2 minutes, but now the daughter has been given away by DJ to be a Conner.

I don't know if you remember Molly, the girl who was flirting with David. She came back on yesterday. They keep doing this out of desperation. I can't believe the show hasn't been canceled.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Could be I gave Darlene a pass for being a couple years older than me or if I continued to watch I would have the same sentiment. I've seen the clip where Jackie slaps her at Thanksgiving and a clip of Dan scolding a neighbor for supplying pills to Rosie. Becky then comes out and says she found the same bottle of pills in her closet. Tells you how bad the writing is now.

Maybe this is an experiment. "Let's hire high school kids to write this, and see how it does with the illusion it's good"

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

At least the show made us laugh and cry. It was a brilliant series. Completely underrated for a very long time and ahead of it's time. Before Married With Children, tv families were portrayed like they were perfect family unit, and every problem got saved in at least 2 episodes.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Well, there was already All in the Family,so I think MWC is the second.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Well Roseanne was never realistic. You guys keep trying to revive that show. It didn't work. Just like it didn't work me getting rid of all those people that sit around in their cars parked out in driveways waiting around to bother me.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

All in the family was good too, with Meathead being the perfect antagonist!

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

And I am sure there are men out there who are losers in life whose only one claim to fame is their HS glory days in sports that they look fondly back on because they don't have anything else going for them.
Even if it is being Married With Children.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Could you do us all a favor? STFU!!

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Realistic? No family could live in a home like that with only one breadwinner making minimum wage. Not to mention their dog was a purebred worth over $1,000.00.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

It's also a documentary into how tolerant we once were regarding humour. WMC couldn't be made nowadays, feminazis and snowflakes have destroyed all that.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

One of the best sitcoms out there. Much better than that shit sitcom Seinfeld.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

All the characters in Seinfeld were unlikable.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

exactly my point.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

One of those shows that everyone around you loved except you.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

it was a shitty show like frasier and friends

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

It was decades ahead of its time, too.

In one episode, Al tells an openly gay man that he loves him. And he meant it, too.

It never amounted to anything. Al didn't leave Peg and she never knew about it.

But the LGBT community sat up and took notice and they liked it.

Until Al used the F word at the end. Not the one that rhymes with truck but the one that rhymes with tag. They don't like that word. They want it banned. Along with about 2,500 other words they find offensive.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

He said 'homo' not the f-word.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Thank you, Matthew. You are a true fan.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

you're welcome. You too.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

I agree, the realism combined with comedy made it stand out. I don't think the show really got going until the third/fourth season when they brought in Gerry Cohen as the director and hired some different writers (the episodes were too slow before that, hence the change). They got a bigger budget which meant they could start to film outside the living room set, too, which made a big difference.

As far as sitcoms go, MWC is one of the greatest of all time. Applegate & O'Neill in particular were great.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

You're right. The show really brightened up when they were able to branch out into different locations.

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Do you prefer Steve or Jefferson?

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

Steve. Jefferson was funny too and I remember the actor from Revenge of the Nerds, but Steve was a more realistic character and a counter balance to Al. Jefferson was the tag along and more of a cartoon like character (even though he was still funny).

Re: God, this show is a fucking documentary

I think Steve was a better character, but Jefferson came on board when the show started to pick up steam. Basically, Steve was better, but Jefferson was in better episodes, so I'm kinda stuck on both.

Anyway, Ed O'Neill hinted that David Garrison was his favorite person to act alongside on the show. He said it at one of the reunions in front of the rest of the cast, which I thought was a bit awkward. O'Neill & Garrison did have really good chemistry, though.
