Thomas Mitchell : Glencannon

Glencannon

Does anyone else remember this British TV programme of 1959 which starred Thomas Mitchell. It was my favourite TV show when I was 9 or 10 and I remember feeling upset when I heard about Mitchell dying in 1962. He was a great character actor who lives on in his many films.

Re: Glencannon

Bit late for a reply but you may still be around!! Yes I loved the Glencannon series and I am lucky to own 4 episodes, wish I had more!! Do you recall the great theme song as well?

Yes

I remember Glencannon well. It was a charming, modest little show, and Thomas Mitchell made it work. He was alive when I first saw it; and shortly thereafter he died. The man was such a solid presence on the screen it seemed like he could go on forever. I caught a sneak peek of him on a visit to New York with my mother and sister. Mitchell, Keenan Wynn and a few other actors were rehearsing for a TV show, the title of which I didn't learn until some twenty years later (The Joke And The Valley), an episode of an anthology series, which I've yet to see, and probably never will. That was quite a sight; and Adlai Stevenson at the UN, too; on the same day.
