Gilbert Gottfried : Gilbert's voice when meeting him

Gilbert's voice when meeting him

For those of you that met Gilbert Gottfried, did he talk to you in his loud, grating voice that he's known for or did he talk in his real voice?

Re: Gilbert's voice when meeting him

I met him a while back and he talked in his regular voice lol it was awesome.

Re: Gilbert's voice when meeting him

He's just a humble little guy when he's not on.

You must know this. It just stands to reason that anyone that over the top in the throws of his act would be a bit the opposite in his natural state.

I watched a wonderful show a few years ago at Zanies in Chicago. He had just released his filthy jokes album, then went on to do an hour and a half of hilarious, clean, G rated comedy. I thought it was daring and fresh.

Then I walked by him as he was sitting near the exit, waiting to interact with folks and sign their copies of his CD. I didn't buy his CD that night, but I walked by him and told him I loved him and proceeded to do my impression of him doing his O Henry commercial... "I'm about to take a bite from the O Henry bar"...

That was from the early 80's when GG was getting his start. He just looked and laughed. Great, great, guy... the best.

Re: Gilbert's voice when meeting him

I never met him in person, but he did an interview spot on TCM I guess when he was taking about Freaks and he didn't talk in the voice he's known for. I was kind of taken aback by it really since I'm so used to hearing it.

Was he doing the intro for the film? Or was TCM asking his opinion on it?

I'm trying to imagine why TCM would want to talk to GG about Freaks. Is he known as a film buff?

Re: Gilbert's voice when meeting him

I believe they were asking his opinions and what his favorite movies were. It was last Halloween and they played Phantom of the Opera (1925) right before, then showed Freaks. I'm sure a clip is up on Youtube.
