They were allied planes possibly hawker typhoons going by the markings on the wings. Could have been a different allied plane though.

They were not the same two planes. The two planes strafing the US troops on the beach were German planes led by Josef "Pips" Priller. It was historically true that the Germans had only two fighters on the entire Normandy Front. The two planes that strafed the Germans in the scene that wounded the German officer (played by Hans Christian Blech) were British planes - very likely meant to represent Hawker Typhoon fighter-bombers as the poster above me said.

yes, the "invasion stripes" on the british planes bear this out.
