Film scores that sound like they were composed by…

... John Williams? The only one I can think of is BACK TO THE FUTURE.

To me, some parts of Super 8 score.

Get back you stupid bird,so I can love you.-Dr. Sheldon Cooper

Some parts? The entire score was meant to sound like E.T..

Re: Film scores that sound like they were composed by…

I think the soundtrack for E. T. itself sounds like written by John Williams.

The opening of First Blood by Jerry Goldsmith.

We're all familiar with Goldsmith's ugly, gutteral, scary, deep low bass chords, but the opening of First Blood, "It's a Long Road", is a marshal, mournful love theme that is as beautiful and sweet as any of Williams' love themes! Played on French horn, it sounds very similarly sad to Williams' later opening French horn theme for Born on the Fourth of July!

And when Rambo walks up from the "long road" to his former Vietnam war Green Beret comrade Delmar Barry's house, we even hear the 5-note theme of Williams' Close Encounters! When I first saw the film, I had to do a double-take! I was like "Where's the mothership?". Then I saw "Music by Jerry Goldsmith" in the credits and I was like "No way! Sounds like John Williams!".

The original Poltergeist, also scored by Jerry Goldsmith, also has the very sweet lullaby theme for 5-year-old Carol Anne that sounds like it was written by John Williams. Chock that up to the influence of Poltergeist's producer and long-time Williams collaborator, Steven Spielberg!

The Fugitive by James Newton Howard.

Agreed.

Re: Film scores that sound like they were composed by…

I agree with both of them.

One of my all-time favourites: Young Sherlock Holmes, composed by Bruce Broughton, sounds Williams-ish a lot of the time.
