This was different. I liked it.

Re: Favourite Robert Mitchum role

out of the past

Re: Favourite Robert Mitchum role

Of course, I have more than one favorite.

(Random order)

Out of the Past
The Sundowners
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison
Two for the Seesaw

Agreed

I wholly agree. Every time Mitchum's Max Cady made an appearance the (proverbial) noose tightened just a little bit more. Mitchum tended to play good guys; tough, but with a heat of gold. In Cape Fear Mitchum was totally believable as a shrewd psychopath, He even had moments, with his sharp wit, and at the very least a scintilla of charm, or maybe charisma's the better word for it. In his later scenes in the picture he had turned into a total monster. Director J. Lee Thompson knocked this one out of the ballpark.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle

Yes, this is really me.

Re: Favourite Robert Mitchum role

Mitchum's pitch perfect in Eddie Coyle, a fine movie, full of fine actors. My only problem with it is that the supporting cast is so excellent that Mitchum seems almost overwhelmed some of the time. Or is it his character 🙄.

Re: Favourite Robert Mitchum role

His supporting role in Crossfire.

I write a blog ".

Crossfire

Crossfire is a terrific film, and Mitchum is stellar in it. Great direction by Edward Dmytryk, and for those who don't know, the script was written by the later to be renowned director, Richard Brooks.

Re: Favourite Robert Mitchum role

Mitchum is outstanding in a lot of those noir movies like Cape Fear and The Night of the Hunter. I need to hear him sing though so I will pick "Rachel and the Stranger", where he is a good guy.

Re: Favourite Robert Mitchum role

Harry Graham in the (rather obscure) 1971 film Going Home, also featuring Jan Michael Vincent as his estranged son, and Brenda Vaccaro as his girlfriend. Mitchum and Jan Michael Vincent would team up again as father and son 12 years later, in the 1983 miniseries The Winds of War.
