Food and Drink : Ever marinated chicken in buttermilk before frying?

Ever marinated chicken in buttermilk before frying?

It's worth it. Somehow the buttermilk has an almost miraculous effect on the chicken as it breaks down the proteins and tenderizes it.

Yes. Many people do that. Nothing new.

Does it work with baked chicken, too? Grilled?

I'm not one of the slashies who has ever harrassed you. I'm a Miss Margo fan. Legit asking re: the chicken in buttermilk.

BTW, in an unrelated subject, I surfed past "Five Graves to Cairo" on TCM recently and had to do a double take. Anne Baxter was on screen and the lighting and camera angle made her look quite a bit like Miss Bette Davis!

In that case, you will forgive me, but I don't have the time nor the patience to try guessing who is who on these boards. I'm not being a bitch when I say this. I simply don't give much thought to who is who… especially people who share the same account. If you want to do that, fine. You're all the same person to me then.

To Put This To Rest, Marinate Your Chicken In Buttermilk. You may let it sit in the fridge for up to two hours before cooking. You may coat it with any coating you wish, or none at all. You may bake it, grill it, fry it, cook it anyway you like.
To be sure that the meat is completely cooked, be sure that you use a meat thermometer to check the internal temp. It should read at least 165F to be safe. Also be sure to wash your hands and disinfect any surfaces where the chicken has been. You don't want to get sick or die!
Any other questions? Look it up on the internet and Bon Appetite.

Re: Ever marinated chicken in buttermilk before frying?

Many thanks, Miss Margo. I hope to try it with some boneless, skinless breasts soon.

I'm not a complete novice so I knew about the 165 degree rule, but it never hurts to put that out there for those who are unaware!

Thank you for thinking about my safety.

Nah that slash is right. Unfortunately Margo's response made it very obvious that anyone reading should kill themselves without delay. Bye.

Re: Ever marinated chicken in buttermilk before frying?

Yep, it is a pretty good trick.

Pretty easy though. You should try preparing chicken with asafoetida. Far more challenging but quite rewarding if you get it right.

Beware the sound of one hand clapping.

Re: Ever marinated chicken in buttermilk before frying?

I use a mixture of buttermilk and garlic chili sauce. You can use any hot sauce though. I also use rice flour instead of regular flour, season it with cajun spices, and mix in corn starch to make it crispy. It comes out lovely.

Hey Diddler, Diddler….the cat and the fiddler LOL

Never fried one.

I've eaten lots of chicken, but I never fried one.
