George Peppard : Ethnicity?

Ethnicity?

What was George Peppard's ethnicity? My dad says he's Polish because of that detective show he was on, Banachek or something. I don't really buy it. Help, please?

Re: Ethnicity?

Interesting question. wish i knew. reading your bio, you sound a lot like i was as a kid. i grew up listening to glenn miller while my friends were into Culture Club etc...
Do you like the A-team? I'm 34 years old now and have rediscovered this show, (and george peppard)

Re: Ethnicity?

I tell ya, it's tough being different, especially music or movie wise. But if you enjoy it enough, you can handle it. And it's more rewarding to oneself when likeing the things that you really love.

Do I like the A-Team? I love that show! I have seasons 2, 3 and 4 (have yet to get the first) and I watch them all the time. Those guys were the last great heros on television. What would you say is your favorite episode?

Re: Ethnicity?

Gosh, I like so many for so many different reasons...When You
Comin Back Range Rider? maybe? I guess I haven't thought about it. Hey if you like good A Team stories there's a lot of good fanfiction out there. Huge fanbase of writers to draw from...

Re: Ethnicity?

George's father (also george peppard) was canadian. But his roots are in England. Definately not polish.

Re: Ethnicity?

I didn't know George Sr. was from Canada. Do you know where?

Re: Ethnicity?

I believe he was from Calgary. But he moved to the United States as a teenager and served in the US military (fought in world war I).

Re: World War I ?

Not possible. Born in 1928, he was too young even for WWII, unless he lied about his age to enlist.

Re: World War I ?

Make your mind right...George Peppard sr was in WW1...not George Peppard jr...We all miss him

Re: World War I ?

Was in the Marines from 1946-1948. After WWII and too early for Korea.

"I believe he (George's father) was from Calgary"

There was definately a Calgary connection because George Peppard said in an interview that he spent his summers as a child at his uncle's farm near Calgary. His uncle's name was Stu Peppard and he was a very prominent sportsman in Calgary - there's an arena named after him.
In the 1980's Stu Peppard was hospitalized for several months before he died and George came to visit him often - he even had a direct telephone line installed in his uncle's hospital room so they could talk anytime. When Stu died George came to the funeral and was interviewed by the local media.
But George was not born in Calgary - his father had settled in Detroit by the time of his birth.

Re: Ethnicity?

Peppard sounds French. Perhaps French-Canadian?

Re: Ethnicity?

Chinese I'm pretty sure.

Re: Ethnicity?

"Banacek" (pronounced BANACHECK) would be a Czech name, not Polish.

Re: Ethnicity?

American.
