National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation : Comedy/Family???? What????

Comedy/Family???? What????

How is this a family movie other than the fact that it's about a family?

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

Couple things.

We've watched both the DVD and TV versions. Language is cleaned up on the TV version although its is not so bad (comparatively) in the DVD. I think an F bomb is dropped on the DVD.

Families with kids whose ages compare with the ages of the kids in the Giswold family would probably enjoy it. Families whose kids are pre-adolescent would probably not enjoy it and should look for Frosty, Rudolf or similar fare.

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

Most of the humor is at the level any eight-year-old boy would find funny. The whole movie is riddled with slapstick silliness, pratfalls, and broad visual humor of a very childish sort. It's clearly made for families with grade-school kids.

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

Pretty sexist.

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

I don't think any of the National Lampoon movies are meant to be family movies, and though the slapstick could be understood by young viewers, some of the material is unsuitable for kids that young.

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

just watched it today with my 9 yr old. it was on ITV at 3pm. no swearing as highly edited. still funny

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

I think FREEFORM (formerly ABC Family) broadcast the film multiple times during the holiday season.

It's definitely safe for family viewing if you DVR or watch live the broadcast.

Re: Comedy/Family???? What????

Just watched it with my family. The kids loved the sled scene.
