Cargo vessel stuck in Suez Canal

Might take weeks to free the ship and get Suez Canal cargo traffic flowing again. Turned diagonally, her bow is in Asia, and her stern is in Africa:

Re: Cargo vessel stuck in Suez Canal

This is a really good example of the choke points that exist in the world. This little contretemps will raise prices for some things, there are billions of dollars at stake. Crazy.

Re: Cargo vessel stuck in Suez Canal

Agreed ,they are always looking to bump up prices on things as is ,this is a legate reason.

Re: Cargo vessel stuck in Suez Canal

How in the hell did that happen? Human error? Freaky weather?

Re: Cargo vessel stuck in Suez Canal

Freaky weather appears to be the culprit: high winds from a desert sandstorm blew it off course and the ship rammed into the side of the Canal.

👍

Re: Cargo vessel stuck in Suez Canal

BTW, the ship is stuck at both ends - bow and stern. So freeing it is not as simple as just towing it backwards. They'll have to dredge out the Canal at both ends of the ship, and carefully offload some of her cargo and fuel, then hopefully float and rotate the ship back into deeper part of the Canal. I hope all goes well. For everybody's sake.
