lancaster. never liked heston. they can both overact but lancaster is more charismatic and likable.

I like both actors for different reasons.

Lancaster had the greater range, but without a sense of humor. If he ever broke up and rolled across the floor in hysterical laughter (on film or real life), I've never heard anyone discuss it.

Heston wasn't the life of the party either and spent his entire career after The Ten Commandments singing I'm "Nearer my God to Thee" more than everyone else.

If I had to pick a couple of favorites from each, it would be Sweet Smell of Success, Trapeze and The Train for Lancaster and Touch of Evil and Planet of the Apes for Heston.

Lancaster could be a wonderful actor - very good in From Here to Eternity and Sweet Smell of Success; magnificent in Birdman of Alcatraz, The Leopard, and Atlantic City.

Heston was never more than serviceable. He was a what-it-says-on-the-tin kind of performer, and he'd put the same amount of energy and gritty determination into whatever role he played, but never so that it made a damn bit of difference, whether he was playing God himself or just monkeying about under a collapsing freeway in Earthquake.
