Victor Mature : Best Quote of all time!

Best Quote of all time!

"If you're so concerned about f-ing privacy, don't become a f-ing actor!"

Every wanna-be-actor should have to read this quote before going into acting.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

That's a good one, but personally I like where he says, I'm no actor and I've
got 63 pictures to prove it.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

I wonder how much of this quote (i.e., "I'm no actor . . .") was tongue and cheek? Was he at all serious? I would say that his filmography, with all due respect, proves just the opposite. Sure, he may not have been in the same class as a Spencer Tracy, or a Richard Burton (when at his best), but he was certainly better than Burton at his worst, and better than the majority of all the leading men and women who have ever graced the screen. One need only look at The Robe where he easily outshines Burton to realize that his comment had to be, in actuality, totally tongue in cheek. Cheerio!

"Nothing in this world is more surprising than the attack without mercy!"--Little Big Man

Re: Best Quote of all time!

Of course it was tongue in cheek, but that was what I liked about him. He was
the least pretentious star in Hollywood.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

Actually he was not highly thought of as an actor as I recall. Sort of the Stallone of his day by comparison. I think his comments along those lines were meant to be cynical with a grain of truth.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

Well in another post here someone has an excerpt from Richard burton biography where Burton also repeats hearing Mature say that quote. Evidently Mature liked to use it a lot too. Don't blame him, a great line for sure.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

That is some funny sh$t there. I would tell Mature (if he were alive) that I like your movies.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

I love that!

Re: Best Quote of all time!

The "I'm no actor" quote was supposedly said when Mature was denied membership in an exclusive country club because he was an actor.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

The best quote associated with Victore Mature was made by Groucho Marx when he was asked if he would see "Samson and Delilah." He said he would not. His interlocuter asked him why not. "Because," he said, "I never go to see films where the leading man has bigger tits than the leading lady."

Re: Best Quote of all time!

Mature also had a great line concerning movie roles. During the eighties remake of Samson and Delilah, he was asked how it felt to be playing Samson's father. He repllied that if the money was right, he would play Samson's mother. A real professional.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

He never took himself or his profession too seriously, which was a testament to his maturity and intelligence. Regarding his quote about privacy, he was right. Of course in his day the paparazzi were not crawling all over the place like they are now, but the general point is valid. If you choose to become an actor, achieve a certain degree of success, and live in cities that are centers of entertainment and frequent high profile restaurants and nightclubs, a certain loss of privacy in public places come 1908 s with the territory.

Actors who live quiet lives in communities not heavily populated with entertainment people, and who don't throw their weight around or cheat on their spouses in public like Jeff Daniels and Robert Duvall usually manage to stay out of the tabloids.

Re: Best Quote of all time!

Sounds like he was well grounded and had a great sense of humor. Who knew?

Re: Best Quote of all time!

One quote about Victor Mature I read somewhere and always remember is this:

Apparently, Helen Hayes' husband, writer Charles MacArthur, was a drinking buddy of Vic's. One night they had gone out and wound up in a bit of trouble. When they finally arrived back home in the wee hours of the morning, Hayes took one look at the two of them and humorously quipped: 'I might have known-- a night on the town with Mature and Immature!'

Re: Best Quote of all time!

Lol. Now that's funny.
