My own Answer is "All".

Re: "Arthur C. Clarke", "Stephen King", "Peter Benchley", or "Michael Crichton"

I don't class Peter Benchley with the other writers. He's in a lower category, imo.

I would like to add Isaac Asimov to those other great writers.

Benchley wrote a couple of decent novels but I wouldn't have included him on this list.

King had an incredible period of entertaining novels from the mid 70s to the mid 80s but that was followed by a very long period of mediocre novels that lasts to this day. After the novel It, I either didn't like or could not finish any of his novels.

Clarke wrote some of the best SF, especially Childhood's End and City and the Stars, but he will always be remembered for 2001, a middling novel I think gets so much praise because of the movie. But his overall body of work is impressive.

Michael Crichton wrote some terrific novels, like The Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, The Great Train Robbery, Sphere, Congo.

Overall, the winner for me is Clarke, because I've read more of his, he was the most consistent over his long career, many memorable novels and a ton of short stories and he also wrote some intriguing non-fiction works.
