if its a blood relative then the other family members you so kind-heartedly and lovingly invited will tell this person about the gathering.
if its a family member by marriage then possibly the same will happen.
unless you actually do go elsewhere, hosting a christmas day thing without this person is gonna make you target of gossip and hate.
