Cinderella Man : Would this movie been better without Renee?

Would this movie been better without Renee?

This movie is one of my favorite and the entire cast is amazing, however Renee is just.bleh. She is like that in every movie she is in, who agrees?

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

Reneee in this movie is just how she is in every movie, utterly forgetable. Loved the movie and the cast. As much as I think Russell Crowe is an ahole, he makes the movie and I love watching him. Just wish they would've found a better actress to play zelwigger's part.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

agreed

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I think it would have had a stronger impact if someone else played her role. She and Crowe didn't seem to have any chemistry together (imho). I first noticed it at the beginning of the film, when they were in that nice house, and she came over to him. Neither of them seemed very comfortable with each other, and throughout the film, it never really got any better. Later, when she tries to stand up to him, she just come across as a shrill, weak woman and we really never see why he was so much in love with her (as the script claims). Admittedly, the script had a hand in the way she was portrayed and they kind of uglied her up with bad make-up and unflattering lighting, but all in all, I would say that someone else should have played the role. Someone else might have shown more spark with Crowe and brought more life to their role.
A good example was the wife of Paul Giamati's charactereven though she had a small role, she had more chemistry with her husband and was closer to what Renee could have portrayed.
Actually, if those two actresses had switched roles, it would have been a better and more popular movie.

Anyone agree/disagree???

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

Disagree entirely with everyone on this thread so far. Renee was terrific, and adorable. She and Crowe had great chemistry together. If I'd had a wife like that I'd be world champion.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I agree. I seem to be one of the few that was impressed with Zellweger's character.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I agree with you. I thought she was great in this movie

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

^^What you and Weirdo said. laugh.gif I find it funny how nobody seems to know what a good actor is anymore. Now whoever does the biggest movies or is called the hottest is a "good" actor (*cough Jennifer Lawrence*). They dont even know what 'chemistry' means obviously, since they totally misused it because she and RC portrayed a very believable relationship. It was cute and I normally dont care about her but she was cute in this, looks and acting wise.

I wish people would get half an idea of what real acting is and not prejudge an actor because of their looks (Renee, Maggie Gyllenhaal) or one or two bad movies (Kristen Stewart, Camilla Belle, etc.)

We're collecting dust, but our love's enough.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I really don't like Rene Zelwegger but I thought she did a fine job in this movie. Nothing about her that usually bothers me bothered me in the slightest in this film and if some moron wants to try to make a point that a more attractive actress should've been chose then they entirely miss the point of this film. How many stunning beauties would live underneath a shop with no heating or food for their kids in the depression? Exactly.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

She suited the role in terms of both looks and performance, and I thought they had chemistry. It was a fine performance. Not great like Crowe's, but that wasn't necessary or even suited for the film.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

The only movie with her that I can stand is Jerry Maguire,
in all of her other movies she seems so fake

Crowe's performance was amazing though.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

Just saw this movie and couldn't agree more.
Her acting was terrible and sometimes made my mind wander away from the movie.
I wish Ron had picked up someone else.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

Ya know a lot of people blast her performance in this but I don't get it. I'm not a big Zelwegger fan but I thought she was actually pretty dang good in this. It's probably my favorite of all her performances I've seen.

It's become kind of trendy to attack her role in Cinderella Man, but can anyone give me some examples of why it's so widely panned? I really am interested to know, because I don't see it.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I don't get this thread either. She was perfect in this role and I couldn't imagine anyone else portraying the character like she did. And no chemistry? What? That's so ridiculous. The way their relationship was presented in this movie is one of the reasons for it to be such a successful movie.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I don't get it. Physically she suited the role perfectly: she had the kind of prettiness that was popular during the 1920s and 1930s. And I liked the fact that she was pretty but not some crazy-beautiful bombshell.

Also, she was a bit more refined than he was and I think he was smitten by that. He was a sweet guy but humble and unsophisticated. He seemed to adore her.

I thought they had great chemistry. Their physical/sexual connection seemed strong, as did their emotional bond and mutual devotion and respect.

Her acting was very good, IMO. She hit the right notes at the right times, and worked well with all of her co-stars. I thought it was a great casting choice.

Was she as good as Russell Crowe? No, but how many are? He's a top-tier actor, probably my favorite. And he was the star. She was meant to be a supporting character, and that's what she did.

This movie never got the respect it deserved IMO. I absolutely loved it. Maybe it was almost too perfect and inspirational. But it was based on a true story, and it didn't shy away from the grim effects of the Depression.

And Paul Giamatti was just fantastic as the manager. I loved their dynamic together.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I thought she was awesome in this movie. I think people might have a problem with her not being very attractive or something because her acting was spot on. She had a very likeable character.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I thought her teasing/seduction scene was one of the sexiest I've ever watched in any movie had me going for a minute there :-)

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

Renee was great in this movie and it was one of her best performances. You guys dont know what you are talking about.

Re: Would this movie been better without Renee?

I'm not someone who hates her just out of principle. I did think this role was too similar to her role in 'Chicago.' It was distracting. I kept expecting her to burst into song.
