The Powerpuff Girls : Not suited for children

Re: Not suited for children

Wow, what a bunch of little fairies in this thread

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh I saw some little girl punch someone.

There were hell of a lot worse at the time. Kablaam, Rockos Modern Life, Two Stupid Dogs, Ren and Stimpy, Cow and Chicken just to name a few and you if you asked any kid my age(19) who grew up watching those show while they were 8-12 or whatever they will say they loved those shows because they were FUNNY! and if you're too sheltered or your parents are some sort of religious zealots then I feel sorry for you

Comedically, you are a prude. You probably don't remember it, but I'm almost sure that there was a time when even you too thought that poop, puke, farts and other nastiness were hilarious. I'm 21 and it's still pretty much one of the best forms of comedy if done right.

And in a kid's show.fuggedaboutit!! Children love gross out humor and food fights and slime and all that good stuff! They like playing in the mud and being real people. Society brainwashes us into being stuck up and overly ordered, but children are pure and follow natural human instinct.

Re: Not suited for children

Kids like gross stuff like that. It's perfect for children. Although I don't exactly get along with my parents I'm glad I was allowed to have a childhhood and watch awesome shows like this. In fact kids shows have been dumbed down because they are to scared of what parents will think.

Re: Not suited for children

Certainly the violence is worse.

Very good, Louis. Short, but pointless.

Re: Not suited for children

How is this not suitable for children? I watched this as a child and loved every moment of it. It's full of gross-out gags and whatnot which will bring in an audience of young boys who will enjoy the show too, so it doesn't just seem like the cartoon was all "girly."

It even appealed to adults as there were plenty of little adult jokes peppered around the show. It's suitable for children and has plenty to appeal to everyone.

"I remember this show from about 2000 on CN, and I have no idea how this is suppose to be seen as a show for children. You have scenes with puking, snot or/and different body fluids in every episode. I mean, it grossed *me* out, and I was 16 when the show aired for the first time.
Somehow it looks like this is a direction most new shows are taking. I remember the same thing with "Cow and Chicken" and "Two stupid dogs".
Anyone feel the same way, or am I being overly dramatic here?"

No you are not being overly dramatic. Most of the episodes are okay regarding the content and there are quite a few well written individual episodes despite the very bad animation.

But then I watched the episode about when Buttercup wouldn't take a bath. They showed Blossom and Buttercup not wearing any clothes, taking a bath together in the same bathtub at the same time. They showed three creatures, a head, and the body divided in halfbuttercup ended up tying them up and their arms ripped off. And then they showed a dog sniffing another dogs butt and they even drew its anus. This is unnecessary and you are right. There are even more disgusting TV shows. Two stupid dogs paved the way for shows like that.

Re: Not suited for children

A lot of kids probably grew up with it (me and my sisters included) and they no doubt turned out fine. A bit of body fluids doesn't necessarily mean its bad for kids but there isn't anything wrong with being grossed about it. :)

You're being overly dramatic.

Re: Not suited for children

It wasn't originally intended for kids. It's chock full of dirty jokes. But kids loved it, and didn't get the dirty jokes.

Lots of cartoon network shows were very cheeky. It went over the heads of kids but is something we as adults can laugh at later.

I'd rather watch this for cheeky cartoon humor than family guy.

Re: Not suited for children

I totally agree about the adult content going over kids heads. Taking that sort of thing out of kids entertainment ruins these types of shows. I remember all sorts of adult content that did indeed hit the wall behind me it flew so far over my head, and I didn't grow up to be a serial killer.

Re: Not suited for children

I feel completely same as you, this is a very disturbing show, I guess mostly all cartoons these day are bad for kids.
Only old cartoons which have been removed from broadcast are good, but for some reason the tv stations removed more and more of these good ones during the last 10 years, and replaced them with these inappropriate ones.

Cartoon Network used to be a great channel back in the early to mid 90's, wish I knew what happened, someone screwed it up of some stupidity at the station.
They dont realize how bad these shows really are for kids, make them grow up and be everything they shouldn't be, we got more burglers, murders, rapers etc. these days, compared to old days, but noone seem to realize why, this is definitely one of the reasons, so stations STOP showing these shows, and bring back good old shows.

I myself grew up with shows like Centurions 1986, Thundarr the barbarian, Galtar and the golden, shows like these were alot better for kids, and many of them had Public Service Announcements after the show, which is about someone from the show teaching the kids about the real life, it could be nature, space, flowers, anything which is relevant.

So I strongly agree with you with this show, ones that doesn't, you should wake up seriously, look back at old times, and compare cartoon shows, by the first second you see the difference, in how they really look, you will see that they even look alot better than these days, people dont care anymore how the shows looks, because everything is about money these days, NOT about how inappropriate they are.

I want my kids to grow up with good shows, so I let them watch my old tapes where I've recorded cartoons from Cartoon Network back from the 90's, the new ones are terrible.

Re: Not suited for children

I'm pretty sure there's much different reasons why there's murderers and rapists. You can't pin it on shows like these, I mean where in any of these shows are there murders or rapes? Listen the world has always been nasty, don't romanticize the past. Back then people were just more hush hush about all of the dark things that happened. If you want a sugarcoated cartoon look at Disney.

Re: Not suited for children

Peter,
You have got things very wrong. My Friend who goes by the screen name Grayoo7 is right because I have done research in the last 14 years and I can tell you that the following things have happened to television and movies. From the 1920's until the movie titled "Gone with the Wind" was filmed there were no words of profanity. Then from the time that movie was made to now as the years have passed the amount of foul language has increased to where it has gotten to where almost each sentence spoken has a word of profanity.

With the Cartoons that have been made over the years from the first cartoons made in the 1920's to the date of June 30 1988 all the cartoons that were made in the USA had good moral teachings and guidance in each episode. From July 1st 1988 to June of 1993 the only bad cartoons were Simpsons and Bevis and Butt Head. Then from the last months of 1993 to December 31 1997 there were only 20 to 30 cartoons fit for children under the age of 13 to watch. From that time until now it has gotten to where there is no morality in any of these new cartoons. I myself have even argued with a professor of psychology involving those power puff girls and other shows that have been made since them.

The reason I say those girls and other shows made since then are bad is because the characters that are labeled as the good guys behave more like the bad guys in the cartoons made from 1920 to 1988. The ones they label as the bad guys in these shows that have been made from 1998 to now are more like victims. It has gotten to where they are labeling evil as good and good as evil. For example on those power puff girls when the mayor asks those girls to do him a favor and promises them some cookies will be on his desk after they complete the job there has been a scene a few times where the girls get the job done faster than the baker can make and deliver the cookies to the mayor and those girls start beating the mayor up. In my country if someone injures an elected official that is a federal offence that gets a person put in jail. Other cartoons have shown scenes of rape and murder in them. It has been proven for a true fact that what children are allowed to watch when under the age of 10 influences their behavior. For example I grew up watching cartoons in the 1980's like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra Princess of Power, G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero, 1984 Transformers, MASK, Centurions, Heatcliff and the Cadillac Cats, Voltron Defender of the Universe, Bravestarr, Inspector Gadget, 1988 C.O.P.S. animated series, Silverhawks, Muppet Babies, Pac-Man cartoon, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, 1983 Animated Dukes of Hazzard,Gummi Bears, and other cartoons made from 1920 to 1980 like Popeye the sailor, The original Looney Tunes, and other classic cartoons. All those old cartoons have the moral guidance of teaching good wins over evil. Also some of these shows even had public service announcements at the end of each show that would teach children good things. The cartoons that have been made since 1998 do the opposite. Plus Video game wise all we had when I grew up was the now Antique Atari 2600 Control deck and over 100 game cartages to choose from to play that did not show blood and guts like the games they make now do. I have also been able to watch the younger generations of my own family and see how they behave due to what they are allowed to watch as they grew up. A second cousin of mine let his son watch whatever the boy wanted to and that boy had gotten into a whole lot of trouble. Another cousin was very strict on what his children watched and those two children are very well behaved.

So what i am saying proves what my friend has said in his previous message that the new shows are not fit for children to watch and today's children should only watch the tv shows and movies that were made when their Parents, Grandparents and Great-Grandparents all grew up from the 1920's to 1993 except for those simpsons and that bevis and butt head show. Those were the only bad shows on during the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Re: Not suited for children

Some people just need to get a backbone. I grew up watching this show among MANY others that would scare you pansies today because somehow throughout the years people have lost their ability to have fun and think for themselves. As a kid I never focused on the violence or whathaveyou in whatever cartoon i was watching because society didn't program me to obsess over that. TV in general just sucks now.

The more personalities you have the less boring you are!
