Tyrannosaur : Olivia Colman
Re: Olivia Colman
Loved her in Hot Fuzz; I'll definitely be looking forward to her performance in this. I saw where she just won a BIFA:

Re: Olivia Colman
Definitely. I too only know her from her comedy roles, but she is ASTONISHING in this film. Hope she does more drama soon.
Re: Olivia Colman
I feel like it's one of those performances that's just about one scene. She's excellent in that moment but that was it for me. She made no other impression but she wasn't helped by the thin screenplay.
Re: Olivia Colman
totally disagree, fella.
the scene where she is necking vodka only to swtich back to normal, the scene where she is raped, the scene where she confesses and countless others made this film for me. I thought she was superb.

Re: Olivia Colman
The entire film was brilliantly acted, one of the best I have seen all year, but she was amazing.

Re: Olivia Colman
The Oscars love to pick at least one relatively unknown performance. There should have been more buzz about her.

Re: Olivia Colman
I remember seeing 'Tilda Swinton' and thought what a superb actress and then when I heard Olivia Colman beat her, at the Evening Standards Award in London, I needed to see this film. And what a performance. I saw her in 'Rev' but what depth and true acting she can bring in this film. She is one to watch out for. A brilliant haunting and touching performance. 10/10 to Olivia Colman.
Re: Olivia Colman
First time I've heard and seen her act in a movie of her. She gave a great performance. She stole the show, imo.
Re: Olivia Colman
Her performance is perfect; you can't help but feel utterly heartbroken for her.
Like everyone else, I'd only seen her in Peep Show and Rev previously, in the former I felt she was miscast - increasingly so as the show went on, but solid performances.
But give her a part of this quality and she knocks it out of the park!

Re: Olivia Colman
Agreed, about halfway into the film It suddenly dawnwd on me that I had been glued to one of the most incredible acting displays I had ever seen!
Especially incredible considering how well known she was from peep show as well, which can be distracting.

Re: Olivia Colman
Totally agree, and it is partially due to knowing her previous work and the contrast that this is. She is ably assisted by a screenplay that has Hannah as a counterpoint to Joseph
Re: Olivia Colman
Yes, excellent performance. She is good in everything she does.
Re: Olivia Colman
Her performance is first class.
Re: Olivia Colman
She really is incredible in this. A complete revelation. I've only really known her from her comedic roles as well. Saw her in Broadchurch and was recommended this film - she was unbelievable. A wonderfully versatile actress to be able to achieve such humour and lightness of touch and yet also go to such dark, traumatic places as she did in this film. Pure class.
Re: Olivia Colman
I was very surprised to see her get the BAFTA's on Sunday as I think she is a two trick pony like the awful "actor" Peter Mullan. That face they put on and then hold the stare is not acting to me it is totally unnatural and unconvincing and apparently director's are using it more and more. Having watched some very good actors over a considerable number of years the difference is the subtlety of the look, movement of the eyes and all parts of the face and the less is more, effortless performances where the actor never appears to be acting and totally sucks the audience in. To me OC and PM style of acting is hit you over the head with a sledgehammer as opposed to subtle. Just my opinion folks but I do notice this "style" of acting more and more.
