Mighty Aphrodite : A wonderful theme of friendship

A wonderful theme of friendship

I find this movie to be so incredibly touching. The theme throughout the movie of good friendship is something that really hits me whenever I watch MA. From my discussions with other people, I feel it's not commonly discussed, or maybe it isn't even there, but I am interpreting it as such. Either way, I find it so touching, the extent to which he goes to help Linda get her life back on track. There is a definite point in the film to where you start to realize (or at least I realize) that he is not only helping her solely for the sake of his son. He is doing it because he cares about her and loves her and is just being a great friend. I don't know, maybe I am just rambling, but it always gets me when I watch this movie. Anyone agree? Disagree?

Re: A wonderful theme of friendship

Agree 100%.

Re: A wonderful theme of friendship

Agree. Movie is playing tonight on Greek TV
must see again, and again, and again!

Re: A wonderful theme of friendship

Is the movie dubbed in Greek? If so, how do they handle Olympia Dukakis's one liner about what they call her son in Harlem? For me, that was the funniest line in the film.

Re: A wonderful theme of friendship

I just watched it for a second time and I agree with that.

She keeps offering sex because that's the only way she knows how to say thanks. When he keeps rejecting it, and just wanting her company, and to spend time with her, and to help her sort her life out, she really is touched.

Re: A wonderful theme of friendship

I totally agree. What's odd is that I happened to watch this right after "Box of Moon Light," another film about two pals from different sides of the social universe. Friendship is a topic that has endless possibilities in films, but it's so often neglected for the sake of sex or romance.
