Actually, she WAS doing her job. The job of the AG is concerned with legal affairs, and is the chief law enforcement officer and chief lawyer of the United States government. She has taken an oath as a lawyer & cannot enforce a law when the legality is questionable. Trump has no law degree & doesn't care about the law - he just wants someone to agree with him.
He had every right to fire her, but is this the way he plans to govern? Not listening to professional advice? Firing anyone when he doesn't get his way like a petulant child?

It is the job of the AG to enforce all US laws. The courts are the ones who determine if it's unconstitutional or not. The AG does have the discretion to not pursue any individual case because they don't feel the case is strong enough, or no real evidence. For example choosing not to prosecute Hillary, but not to say we aren't gonna bother defending the law at all. For example saying anyone who was loose with classified secrets won't be face prosecution.

When we are hired to perform a job, we are not free to do whatever the hell we want. If we disagree with the job, then we have choices.

She was only slated to be in office until Sessions is confirmed. And the responsibility of one in her position is not to go rogue, and refuse to defend a law because her fellow lily-livered lefties think it is foolish or ill-timed. Furthermore I have no doubt that if Obama had made such an order, that she would have gladly enforced it entusiastically.

Alan Dershowitz and Carl Bernstein, hardly the darlings of the right, have both stated that she was wrong to act as she did.
